2002 4Runner 3.4 - Throttle by wire?

Gents,

I posted this question in the 3.4 swap section, but figured I would ask it over here in the appropriate year range forum also, as it gets more traffic.

Does the 2002 model year 3.4 motor have throttle by wire? Or is it the manual throttle cable design to the throttle body?

I am looking at a 2002 4Runner SR5 with a salvaged title for a 3.4 swap to my '89 4Runner.

Thanks,

Mike

Its a combination of the two. A cable is connected to it, but it uses a drive motor to open the plate as well. Not a very good system IMHO, not sure how tough it would be to incorporate into a different vehicle.

I think they did it for the "Traction Control" i quote that because all it does is kill your power pretty annoying actually.

Hmm, so, they wanted independent control of the throttle plate so that they could close it and reduce power when the traction control system required it? Anyone know how that plays out when you don't have a traction control system?

I'm thinking that a 3.4 with a completely manually controlled throttle body might be a better choice.

Thanks,

Mike
