2001 cup holder removal

My cup holders are in desparate need of cleaning. I want to take them out and scrub them. I removed the plastic piece around the gear shifter before when I needed to get into my stereo. I still have a corner that wont snap back in properly but its not noticeable to any but ME.:pat:

Is there an easy way to remove that whole piece around the console and emergency brake?

In the words of Mitch Hedberg:
I drove around all night with the emergency brake on. That doesnt say alot for my driving but it says even less for the emergency brake.

I think Bob98SR5 swapped his 96-98 armrest for a 99-02 armrest with cupholders, give him a shout. ;)

Just pull it streight up with your HANDS. If you use a tool, you are a fool.

Same clips that hold the stereo face plate in place. If that does not fit snug, replace the metal clips and it will.

Never said I used a tool. I removed the other piece with my HANDS. I was planning to do the same with this piece but I was just wondering if there was a method to it like starting at the top and working down.

Sabre,

Read my write up and this should give you a good idea how its constructed and fastened:

Thanks Bob. I will try to do it this weekend.

Sabre,

I re-read my article and it doesn't quite show quite well how to remove it. Of course you have to lift off the arm rest/cover, but you can simply just pop it up and off. You could help by removing the two philips head screws on either side of the cupholder center console (see 1st pic under step 1).

This is the help I was looking for, thank you very much Bob.
Maybe I will add a sig--"Just pull it streight up with your HANDS. If you use a tool, you are a fool. "

Nice sabre! If it matters any, I really don't think Steve was trying to be mean.

You can put that in your sig, but you would be the 146th or 147th person to quote me in your sig.
