2.7L Taco - Is there an exhaust that sounds good?
Hey Guys,
Just picked up a 2001 taco 2.7L 4 banger for an DD, the crawler was just getting brutal to drive every day. Looking to make a few tasteful mods. Thinking All Pro Coilovers and upper A arms set at 1.5" to level out the front and give it a butter smooth ride for camping. Will probably go 15x8 mickey thompson classic II's in black wrapped in 31" or 32" BFG km2s.
My question is, is there any exhaust/ muffler out there that actually sounds good on the 2.7L 4cyl? Did a search and listened to some on youtube but most of the ones im finding sound pretty ricey. Im guessing thats what I will get with a 4cyl but if anyone has found something good.. let me know.
Thanks
Steve

I had a Magnablow, went through 3 of them in a year actually... junk mufflers. Very ricey, rattled a lot.
Flowmasters make 3RZ's sound like lawnmowers IMO. Not a muffler for a 4 banger...
Found a discontinued Jardine online and it sounds a million times better. Very smooth, about as far from ricey as I could find. I don't have any sound clips, sorry, but here's one of a 2TR, gives you a little of an idea if the dude wasn't so throttle happy.

I have a 98 4runner 2.7L. I have an LCE Long Tube Header, LCE High Flow Cat, and JBA Cat Back. IMO it sounds great. Just driving around town shifting through gears it has a low throaty tone to it. When you get on it and get it up around 4500rpm it starts to sound a little 4 bangerish but there is no way around this. On the highway cruising at 60 - 70 there is no annoying drone and very little exhaust sound so it is very enjoyable on a long trip. This whole setup probably cost me around 700 dollars. Overall the system was really easy to install. The LCE Header is CARB approved and keeps all the emissions stuff in place. I would highly recommend you pair it with the high flow cat. If you purchase the header, cat and JBA it is all bolt up except where you have to tack weld the exhaust together in a few places. If you need anymore info just let me know and i will be happy to provide part numbers.
