1994 4X4..What grease to use on rotor assembly
Can I use a multipurpose grease while I change the rotors on my truck? Do I need a special grease? I have the StaLube grease that comes is a black canister. It says it can be used as a bearing grease, but also states not to mix different base greases. I just replaced my calipers and in the process of reassembly. Asking for your advise.

DO NOT use multipurpose grease! You need to get EP (extreme pressure) bearing grease, otherwise it will boil out and the bearings will fail very quickly.

Use #2 red and 4get um.

Thanks Yamarocket630,
Luckily the Stalube brand grease was extreme pressure. Got lucky. Finally got everything back together. The brake fluid connection to the caliper was a real pain in the ass to get back together. A tip for you that I learned today. Autozone wanted to charge me $40 for the caliper and $40 core charge. No problem right as long as I return the core. However, turns out that they charge tax on $80. When I return the part, I don't get the tax money difference back. So, I took my old calipers to Autozone at the same time I purchased the new calipers. Essentially, they only charged me tax on the new calipers. Thanks for the heads up. |
