1989 1st Gen Roll Bar in 1999 3rd Gen 4Runner
It is hardly a bolt in. The front legs need to be shortened and the feet plates removed, the old tube removed and re-welded. I added 3rd Gen luggage tie down to the lower seat belt mount and will use the factory plugs for the upper holes.
It fits but it's by no means easy.
So what color should it be?

What's the point? The whole purpose of the bar on the early Runners was because of the fibreglass top especially when it was removed. It certainly isn't gonna help the driver in case of a rollover. To be of any use on a later model, it would need to be a full cage.

It's just neat. That's all. One of those warn and fuzzy feeing mods.
If you don't want to go to the trouble of re-building a 1st gen, get a woody by installing a 1st gen roll bar in your third.

CHROME!
Guesses on how many units you will be moving when these go into production? I say it ends up like the shackles.
I think it looks cool, but I have too much other stuff in the back of mine to even consider it.

I'm also working on a 63" Chevy kit for 1990-1995 Toyota Mini Pickups, with a slick double shakle that has a poly bumper so it does not bang on the frame.
Stay tuned.........................
We found a gold mine of 96-98 Chevy springs all 100% rust free.

I voted for black.
I could see using that thing as a base for mounting a hi-lift or a 1st aid kit or a real fire extinguisher, not one of those little sissy ones that folks carry to "feel" safe. It is a neat idea.

I voted black, but then I always vote for black. The use of such a bar for mounting other items would be a good reason to have one. I use mine for mounting a fire extinguisher and a small hydraulic floor jack.

Oh god its to late to revote. Damn I voted black but shoulda voted blue. damn! Since your going to have a roll car you need to chop the top so its a fully functional roll bar. My question is THIS. Do you have pics of how you mounted your CB over head? And does it stay up there good or has it fallen down yet? Blue

I have a base model 4Runner, so all I got was a cover, the SR5 and the limited have switches and lights up there. I took the cover off and replaced it with a mounting plate for the big old 10-4 trucker CB.

Would it be possible to put a 1st gen runner roll bar backwards into the rear seats of a 3rd gen extra cab pickup? It looks like it might work, just some hole drilling and trouble getting in for the back seat guests, but oh well. I'll try it someday.

I was thinking to do the same thing in my 2nd gen, but I was going to attach some expanded mesh to it to stop my 2 120 lb. dogs from comming over the seats and crushing the kids... How much did you need to cut off the front posts to get them to fit over the wells?
