160 miles to a tank
 

i just replaced my timing belt, water pump, and the ps, alt, & ac belts. i also replaced the distributor cap, rotor, and spark plug wires. plugs have about 6k miles on them. the timing is set at 10* BTDC. the TPS is within spec - i think. the paper air filter was cleaned. TB was cleaned. we adjusted the ignition. and i'm only getting 160 miles or so to a tank. this was done to a 88 v6/5-speed with 234k miles on the odo. btw, this is with 35" and 4.88 gears.

any ideas? i was getting closer to 230 miles a tank before i did this all. could the t-belt slipped or off?

I'd check that your getting spark at all the plugs. Could be that you have one dead lug or a wire that's not attached. This wold make the rest have to work harder. Did you notice any loss of power?

I don't get much more than that in town with 33's and 4.88's.

I average about 250 (270 with minimal highway) per tank, from FULL to EMPTY.

31's with 4.88, plus grandma style driving.

wow thats crazy mileage king! i get around 200 to the tank with 31's and the stock gears, whatever it came with 225's. and King when you say grandma driving, what rpm do you keep it under around town. i have to keep mine under 2k or it sucks it out. i mean i am driving slow! but this is winter, so maybe if i drive slow in the summer time i can increase my mileage to 250

With grandma style driving, I recently drove 211 miles and the gauge was just below 1/2 tank. That's with 31's and 4.88 gears.

The most I've gotten out of a half-tank was about 190 miles.

Mostly highway driving with 25% city.

now im curious ... if i choose to get 33's then will that affect my gas mileage a lot?

I get around 260/tank on average with a 70/30 mix of highway/city driving and I'm pretty agressive with the throttle.

With 31" tires on my rig (I'm geared for 235 size tires) I get about 13 MPG, and 150 to 160 per tank load.

That is normal for a heavy beast like mine with the 3.0, auto tranny, non stock tires, and various ornaments in the likings of a heavy bumper, winch, sliderz, roof rack, and a 2" lift.

Not very aerodynamic at all.

I am *only* getting about 400miles to the tank in mine.....! :laugh:

It helps that most of Arizona is as flat as a pancake too. :P

Millage adjustment
 

Just curious, how many of you are adjusting your millage for the size of tire you run. Larger the tires from factory, the more miles you are actually going, you oddometer is no longer running true. At least on older rigs. I get around 210 mile on a tank, but it is actually around 240 or so. Rough estimating off another rig that is new.
FYI incase you didnt know, your speed-O-meter is off also. I show 40 I am going 45, 50 is 56, and so on and so on. Good thing to rember when ya get a ticket. Say ya didnt know and the judge will let ya off with a fix it ticket cause your stuff had to be calibrated.

That's about the same as me... I usually gas up when I hit 200 and it's always been just below the 1/2 mark. It's been a while since I ran it below 1/4 mark but if I recall correctly my mileage was around 280... not sure how much further it would've gone, don't really want to find out either. :D

Must be nice, but Toyota doesn't think we can handle diesels in North America.
BTW I also get 400-450 on a tankful, too bad that's km not miles.:D

i'll drop check all the plugs today when i fill it up. i'm going to get new plugs this weekend and install them. this is just crazy. i cruise around 2500-3000 on the highway... i have no power under 2500 but it's always been like that.

Ehhh, I don't have a tachometer so I can't answer your question as far as the RPMs are concerned. :pat: :(

But let me tell you this, when I say grandma style driving, I mean easy accelerations; always cruise to the red light if one is ahead - no need to have the foot stumped in the gas to get to a red light; and, never race or compete with anyone.

Also a very important thing, when you take off from a light or stop sign, let the truck get to whatever speed limit you want it to get it. I see that a lot of people accelerate aggresively to the suggested speed limit, as they were in a hurry, then slow down. What's the point?

It's kind of hard to explain really.

I really shouldn't be answering this question since I'm in the family of the 3.0, but typically bigger tires will decrease your mileage. My take on it is that I don't think it will affect it a lot. Maybe two digits.

With the 3.4, it's easy to get this out of a tank even with aggresive driving.

No suck luck with the 3.0.

If it is idling funny and running weird with gas mileage I would change your TPS. I just did it idles and runs great now. I snagged one off a 22RE throttle body out of a junk yard for $10.

didn't the fuel tank size vary slightly from year to year and also dependant on engine size? Dudes dont complain I get 205 from full to empty line, that = sucky mileage... I use to get 250 and since then I got a new o2 sensor and upped my tires from 31x10.5 on stock 15x7 factory rim to a 31x11.5 on a 15x10 rim I think the extra drag may be the reason and also a flowmaster 40 exhaust. it sounds and handles great however its suck gas like it was going out of style. any tips to run more efficient.
