04 Tacoma to TDI Conversion

I am getting ready to do a conversion from the 3.4 5vz to a VW 1.9 TDI ALH engine. The donor engine/trans is a VW 1.9 TDI ALH w/ 5 spd manual trans. My truck is a 3.4l 5vz with an A340F 4 spd auto. The only conversion kits off the shelf are for the TDI to the 22re/W56 based transmissions. I hear a couple places are working on an adapter to the A340 but nothing is out yet. I believe this is due to the bolt patterns on the A340 flex plate. They interfere with the crank bolt pattern on the TDI. Image shown below of the two patterns based on the dimensions I've gathered (TDI is the counterbored holes). My current options are to wait for the off the shelf adapters (I imagine they'll make a custom flex plate for the A340 TC that matches the VW crank), or buy a W56 bellhousing/torque converter and use an existing kit (or make my own). I know the 22re to W56 bellhousing/TC will work. Do ya'll know what other bellhousings would mount to the A340 that "look" like a 22re on the engine side? I can't find anything definitive.

I could weld up my current flex plate bolt holes and remachine for the VW crank, or weld on a new adapter, but I don't want to affect the heat treat of the flex plate.

Looks like the way to go is to use a 22re X A340 bellhousing, torque converter, and flex plate. The 22re has the 6 bolt crank and will be easy to make an adapter for.

Hey guys. I have a question with regard to the aluminum oil pan. Where the oil pan meets the bellhousing there are some open areas where water can get into the clutch area. Is there somebody who has closed up these areas Or maybe done a new casting. I realize that those open areas are there to access the back oil pan bolts but being open they will also let water and mud into the clutch. Easier to pull the motor to get to those 4 bolts when doing a oil seal. Just a thought.
