Post 01-02 heated seat switch & Rostra ?

I have a 2000 4runner limited with leather seats. I am thinking of adding rostra seat heaters. The rostra comes with a high/low switch but I wanted to install factory switches from a 01-02. My questions are:

1. Does the factory switch from an 01-02 have a high/low option ?
2. Are both the switches mounted in the square blanks on the dash to the left of the steering column ?
3. Anyone ever install the rostra seat heaters, do you need hog rings ?

Thanks

1. i believe the heated seats (i dont have em) in 01's and 02's were an on-off switch, not high/low.
2. yes.
3. no idea.

You would need to deal with hog rings, and hog ring pliers, I would get a professional to do that.

i think they turn off with the car and remain off even when the car is restarted.

dibble9012-

they turn off when the car is off and turn back on when the car is on - when you press them in to turn on, they stay pressed in. they are not a momentary switch - they're like a lightswitch - on and off. there is only one heat setting - ON which gets quite warm...

they're not backlit, but they do have a light that turns on when pressed in.

you need hog ring pliers, hog rings and basic tools to take seats out of the truck. I have done my own leather seats but didnt really want heated seats since my truck sits in garage most of the time. It's not a hard task if you have a baisc knowledge of taking things apart/putting it back together, just do passanger side first so that you can do drivers side. Personally I'd get a different switch(lexus, infinity, etc) that has hi-low switch and just fit it into where ever you want it. They're mostly all black and still look factory

BTW: you can just power it to the ignition switch, that way it's only on when the car is on? just an idea.

heated seats

Thanks for the info and pictures. I will check into other switches that fit in the factory holes. I really want a hi/low as that is what rostras come with. Rostra hi/low switch mounts on the seat side, I want it in dash. I never really did upholstery work other than gutting the tundra for sound deadening. I think I may give it a shot as a local shop wants $525 installed, I can do it for half that.

installed

Finally installed some rostra heated seats. I purchased them from Sports Imports for $210 shipped. It is a pretty easy install. I installed an amp, speakers, and sound deadener at the same time. I used the rostra switches and installed them in the useless pocket next to the ebrake. I only had to remove 4 hog rings from the upholstery and just used cable ties to replace them. The hardest part is figuring out the wiring and what to tie into.

rostra

Rostra seat heaters have a rocker type switch (hi/low/off) that is what is in my photos. They have pretty good instructions included or on the web site. I extended the included wires to reach the center console, as they are only long enough to be installed on the seat side. I had some black plastic left over from a stereo install, did a little filing to the console and epoxied the black plastic in the existing pocket hole.
