well I got the truck back from Maaco today, It's not exactly the right color... It's close but disappointing none the less. At first I was pretty P.O. but now think its not too bad, its not what I asked for but what can I do. I figured ited be pretty hard to mess up the color if theres a code for it but i dunno. What do you guys think? I think I'll give it some time and if it still bothers me I'll re spray over it myself... anyways here's some pictures:
Prep work: I started with 220 in some spots then gradually went up to 400, then I went over the night before with soapy water with a scotch-brite pad, leaving enough time for the water to completely disappear before the paint was applied. I spent at least 8 hours doing all this, possibly overkill ha. Also I didnt expect them to spray the interior of the bed so that wasn't prepped at all.
It going in..
By the time I got the chance to take some photos the sun had set but these photos are pretty accurate of the color..

Really. I think that is a great color. That truck looks really clean. I am going to mess around in photoshop to see how it sizes up on a 1st gen.
Once again, nice work!

I meant to mention this earlier cause i think it could help others. To remove the decals I tried a bunch of crap acetone, paint thinner and some other stuff aided by a razor scraper. The decal itself comes off easily but the residue thats left behind is a PITA! save yourself the time/frustration and go to Napa and pick up decal remover, comes in a metal can like acetone etc. I think it was around $14 but it was worth it. The process works really well with two people. If you have one person laying on the decal remover with a rag and the other person following behind with the scraper it goes fairly well. You could also sand the decals off but you'd end up clogging up so many discs and ruining your paint.. the razer does do some damage to your paint but not too much, especially if your gonna paint your truck like I did it doesn't matter at all. Thought that could be useful! good luck

I still gotta put the fender corners back on and I'm thinking of doing a spray in bedliner as well as flat blacking out the chrome. It definitely looks wayyyy better than what it was before.. by far a big improvement and for under $300!
lemme know when you do the photoshop, I'm excited to see how it comes out!

For what it's worth, I like the color a lot. But I get excited over any well-done paint job... Heck, compared to what the body looked like before... Keep on truckin' !!

Hey Will! ..we should do something soon
anyways heres a much more accurate depiction of the color...
Beautious..
so thats what I was talking about, much more yellow than an olive brown, looks decent at night though ha I'm still not in love with the color... so we'll see I might just end up going over it myself and leaving Maaco out of it.. I've also heard similiar stories about Maaco not painting the right color. One of them being a blue jeep going in to be red and coming out blue again because Maaco forgot what color they wanted and figured blue would be safest! oh well what can you expect

Fell off? Dang, you rough on the Ol' Yeller? Hahaha, jk, ....I think that color would look sick if it had some, maybe, Brown and White Off Road Toyota Racing paint scheme? Dang, can't remember the name, but the original was white, brown and orange I believe? Know the one?

On second glance, if you really ad some nice mods, black bumpers, black shell.....that is pretty original and would look nice, IMHO! My friend just stopped by and said, "I LIKE IT", and he reminded me of a friend who had a TRICKED OUT MR2 the same color, ....he called it "Banana Daiquiri Vomit Racing Yellow", lol

Good progress man love the rims
Ive always like BfG's mud terrains instead of all terains but looks good
Also the reason why your olive brown came out so yellow is beacuse Maaco uses whit or grey primer for all its paint jobs(unlce worked for maaco for 3 years) so when you spray a bright color on a bright primer it brings out the brightest color in the mix wich in your case was yellow
Did you get a clear coat on that??
If you dint you can still get your oilve brown from that yellow
um.. wet sand it with 1000 grid enough to scough it up and the spray your olive brown
i would do at least 2 heavy coats or 4 light coats what ever your better at
wet sand that till smooth spray at least 3 coats of clear wet sand out imperfections buff and youll have a custom paint job on your hands
Oh one quick tip when buffing use a buffer or any buffing power tool
dont I repeat dont use high speed/ rpm tools your burn your paint seriously
