Choosing the exhaust route was a tough choice. I wanted to go down the passenger side to avoid the tight space between the drive shaft and transmission however it would have been a complete mess running next to the e brake, speedo cable and fuel line. Also having to cross over under the driveshaft and still run the catalytic converter. With just putting a small pinch in the tube it easily clears the prop shaft and trans. From there it shoots straight back and gives the exhaust the perfect clearance so it won't get caught on the trails.
i am running 2.5" exhaust all the way back with a factory 3RZ cat and magna flow muffler. I love the sound of the truck too. It's not obnoxious but does have a strong note.
So I walk into the bedliner shop a few doors down and on the back side of his rotating display case I saw these 2 KC day lighter covers. No idea how I've never seen them in there before and he says theyve been in there since they opened years ago. I scored them for just $10. I've been meaning to replace the old ones that have turned to powder for quite a while.
I have only gone thru a couple tanks of gas since finishing the swap but I can say for sure it's a whole lot more fun to drive. Will do 2 wheel burnouts easily and has so much more response and power off idle.
Installed a 4.7 box from trail gear. Will be nice to have the lower gears in it. Next I’m goin to do 63’s in the rear and possibly Blazeland Long Travel.
It’s just about ready for the lone star Toyota jamboree. The Chevy 63” springs are painted and on, housing is powder coated, diff has new pinion bearings and it will have 32x11.50x15 cooper stt pro’s mounted in the morning. The shocks are now triangulated using the low range upper mount. Stainless extended brake line and a proportioning valve drop. The old valve was frozen so I replaced it when I did the drop today.
Its gonna be nice to take it back to Barnwell mountain with the long list of new mods. I have not got the chance to use the 4.7 case on the trails so that will be fun. Shouldn’t ride like hell any more either.
Took it out to test the travel. Turns out the ome rear shocks I had on it are perfect. Full droop is 22.6” eye to eye. The ome shocks are just over 23” with room left over at full compression. These are also the firm shocks which is good since they are now mounted at a steep angle compared to stock

The Lone Star Toyota Jamboree was a sloppy mess after all the rain. Despite the trails being worse than last year the truck did way better than last time out. I barely spun the tires on any of the trails. Super happy with the way the truck performed. STT Pro’s are my new favorite tire.
After watching videos of the harder climbs I went up at Bridgeport ohv I noticed that the idler was bent badly halfway thru the trip. It would be the first idler I’ve bent in all the years wheeling ifs trucks, the other one I damaged sheered off completely on my 91 xtra cab w/35’s 10 years ago. More noticeable is the slop that happens on very steep hills when the wheels are dropped.
I don’t think I’ll be bending any more idler arms since I finally pulled the trigger on a Total Chaos idler. Excited to have this for the Toyota jamboree this year.
I wanted to thank you for all the help you've given Wendy and myself getting our 99 4Runner back to as good a condition as we can. It's coming along nicely. I feel SO much better having the skid plates for it on, finally.

What a difference in road manners. It just soaks up deep pot holes and speed bumps like nothing. When I did the 63’s in the rear it made a huge difference in ride quality but the pro comp shocks were all I could find before the Toyota jamboree. Now it’s time to get a proper shock in the rear.
