Can Relate

Same story here. Looked for almost a year before I picked up my first. ( 1991 Ext Cab 3.0 5 spd 4X4) Base truck, all stock. A year later, my second truck (1990 Ext Cab SR5 3.0 5 spd 4X4 it's my avatar). Third truck is a 1989 SR5 and it's a parts/donor truck. The '90 is the keeper, the' 91 is for experiments lol

Keep posting updates, I'm curious to see where it goes!

I beleive the stripes are under the clear coat. So sand blast and repaint them.
Or procomp makes them without the stripes for 50 bucks each.

I have those rims on my truck. I love them.

As for that rust, if its just surface rust knock it off with some rough sandpaper (80 gritt) then smooth it out with some fine sand paper (320--600 gritt) White duplicolor paint, and duplicolor perfect match clear coat. And you should be good to go

I can feel them above the clear. If I can't get them off, no biggie.

Which rust are you talking about...the fender? The fender is pretty much junk honestly. It's not rot just yet, but if I were to go after all the rust, I wouldn't be left with too much fender. I have a pair of fenders from RockAuto sitting in my Mom's cellar.

The bed rust/scrapes on my bed I will probably go that route. Good learning project.

Ahhh i hear ya.
I was talking about that little bit of rust on the fender.
But Im pretty much in the same boat with the bed of my truck. Decided to go ahead and sand the whole thing down and get rid of allll the rust before it became a big problem.

Yeah...I have such an intense dislike of rust, it's almost funny.

The driver's door has a spot on the inside seam, the bed has spots, etc etc. The frame is solid though, so that's what is important. I can always replace panels as I need to.

This has been more of a project to toy around with rather than a serious truck.

Thanks. I have a pair of CAPA certified fenders sitting in my Mom's cellar. Painting them and installing them by the end of next month along with the ARB. I'll try and touch up all the rust spots on the bed.

Thanks! I've wanted one of these for probably 10 years now, it just never worked out until now. I wanted one when I was 16 but couldn't afford one (and the 84-88 models had the well documented rust issues) so I bought an Accord which I completely rebuilt and restored. Some idiot on the highway cut me off and I slid into them and totaled that so I went looking for a Toyota to hold me over until I found my current daily (which was a task in itself). Then I decided over last summer that I only get one shot to be young and frivolous, so I set out to find one.

Hopefully I can get the rust under control this summer and get it how it should be in my head.

Once you get it back together just get it "rust checked" ie. oil sprayed once a yr and the rust should not be an issue.
