A.Paris' 88 Pickup Build-Up Thread
About 2 months ago the chance for me to buy an 80's Yota pickup surfaced and I jumped at the opportunity. It was a great deal too, my buddy was taking off to Thailand for an extended trip and wanted to unload his Yota. I asked him how much he wanted and to my surprise he just wanted to recoup the amount of his plane ticket. So I picked up a sweet lifted pickup for the price of a plane ticket from Oregon to Bangkok ($1,100). Not too shabby if you ask me :D
Buying this truck was a pretty big deal to me, not only was it awesome, but it was a 5 speed...which I had never learned how to drive a "shifter car" lol. So I bought the truck, and taught myself how to drive it, and I can now happily say that I am the first girl in my family to know how to drive a shifter car! But enough with the back story, onto the good stuff! Here's the specs: 1988 Pickup 3VZE, 5 Speed 3" body lift 31" tires currently, but i'm on the hunt for some cheap 33's with decent tread. Here is a pic of her when I first got her home: http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a..._3888961_o.jpg Needs a bumper, I'm wanting to put one of those Rock Defense tube ones on, they're pretty epic looking but I'm worried that my winch is too big. Plus it has a roller type fairlead, which all the tube bumpers that I can find say that they can't be used with that type.....? Not sure if I can even use the winch I have, it's an old Warn 12k one I believe (Can't read the model #, it's faded completely off) and might just be to massive (I pulled it off a 76' Suburban). I'll snap some pics of it later today and post them. |
welcome to yotatech! theres everything you need to know about your truck on this site and im sure acouple vendors will be more than happy to help you with your bumper situation.

Thanks! I stumbled upon that site yesterday. The bumper they have for my truck is unfortunately not big enough to house the winch I have. I just snapped some pics of it. It's dimensions are roughly 16" H x 17" L x 10" D. It's a old beast that may prove to be much for the Yota :( But it was free so I'm not complaining. http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...K/IMGP2480.jpg |
The first thing that I have done (aside from zip-typing some working turn signals on, lol) was get a roll bar for her. It's mainly for looks and to function as a light bar as it's just bolted to the bed. I've always loved the way these trucks look with roll bars so I had to have one. Found this one on Craigslist for $60 and it came with the lights :D

That winch appears to be i think the warn model 8274 one of the best winches ever made in my opinion. It's a spur gear type, and the 2011 model is the M8274-50 which sells for approx $1500-1800 :)

Well, what started off as a day where I was just going to wash the truck ended with me tearing out the interior and spraying the floor with bed liner. Funny how things happen :D
Here is the floor before: http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMGP2483.jpg And the floor after: http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMGP2484.jpg |
Picked up a cheap set of 33x12.5x15's today. Ride quality has improved noticeably. It's also noticeably slower going uphill :chairfall
Also ordered matching CB set ups for my truck and the fiances' 4runner, they should be here next week. I should brush up on my trucker lingo :D http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...K/IMGP2507.jpg |
10-4 = yes, 10-20 = location ie where you are/where are you?, bear(s) = cops, kojak with a kodak = radar speed trap or photo radar speed trap if you have them where you are,
chicken coop = weigh scales/inspection stations, did you ever get those cb radios? |
Sure did :) Picked up a cheap little Cobra off Amazon with a Firestick 4', works like a charm.

Just found your thread. I am glad to hear you taught your self how to drive a stick shift. I personally think they are funner to drive. I mentioned on another thread just recently that we need more women into this hobby.
The pics arent showing up right now but I have had that to happenn with photobucket in the past, but they usually show up later. Looking forward to seeing your build. |
