Nieb15's 1991 Pickup Build-Up (*AKA the 4x4 Turbo*)
So here is my beloved 91 Yota:
Most Recent Photo
Stock (when I got it)
It is a 1991 Toyota Pickup, 4x4, V6, Singlecab, Longbed, DLX.
A buddy of mine worked in a body shop and put the 4x4 Turbo emblems on the back (turbo was from a Porsche). It is somewhat of an inside joke among friends.
It has already seen two accidents. First was when a tire blew out and it spun on a wet road (before I owned it), only suffered damage to the rear bumper, tailgate, and camper shell rear window (no frame damage ). Second accident was caused by the brakes failing (faulty master brake cylinder, it was bypassing fluid ). Luckily I was able to slow it down enough to avoid a major accident. It caused damage to the front right side (hence the off-colored fender), but once again no frame damage.
I plan on turning it slowly into an overlander and updating the overall truck. I have quite a lot planned.
Here are just a few:
SR5 gauge cluster swap (Finished)
Extend diff breathers
New seats
New tube bumpers (50% Finished)
Rock Sliders (Installed)
Replace cracked dash
Install some new fiberglass fenders and hood (desert baja style)
Full roof rack and light bar
Possible snorkel
Possible "camper' build (sleeping pad, stove, etc in the truck bed area), would maybe cut out behind seats and seal the cab to the truckbed/camper (Trekker anyone?).
Fabricate custom soft top that "seals" the truck bed to cab, weld bed to cab, cut out back of cab.
I started the SR5 dash switch today and I hope to finish tomorrow. I will post pictures once I am done.

Finished installing the SR5 gauge cluster and I have to say, for my first real wrenching project on my truck this was very easy. The only hard part was adjusting the odometer.
On to the pictures!
Adjusting and correcting the odometer
Old mileage, pretty dang close isn't it
Connectors
New cluster (minus speedo)
Dash cover "storage" area
New cluster installed!!!
Night pic (one burnt out bulb )
Overall, I'm happy. Everything is spot on. I will be fixing the bad bulb this weekend and possibly switching the plastic covers (the new cluster's is somewhat scratched up), I would just need to drill a hole for the trip odo's button.
I might also see if I can wire some of the extra "warning' lights to come on when accessories come on. For example Back Door for camper shell interior lights. Either that or I might see if I can get a custom panel made.

I am thinking of taking out the vinyl flooring tomorrow and cleaning up the cab floor. And I started designing my roof rack, contacted a few fab shops to get prices. I might end up taking a welding class in my spare time so I may end up building it myself.
In the mean time, me and some friends had a bonfire tonight (please excuse the cell phone quality pictures).
It got pretty big...

I was a little bored today so I decided to make my truck in Google Sketchup. I started with a base model already uploaded and started to modify it. I think I'll plan out my roof rack and bumpers in Sketchup as well.

Well after some mud bogging in the rain guess who decided to come back on.
Yeah the burnt out bulb has come back to life! I'm still planning on taking it apart (I think I want to replace the green bulbs with white LEDs).
Warming up my truck this morning.
As soon as the weather clears up for a weekend I will be fixing the back window and resealing the camper shell.
I'm also considering checking out some aftermarket sunroof kits. Anyone have a suggestion or advice?

Bought some new stuff for my truck.
Pictures first!
Rally headlight guards, pretty neat IMO
I think I'll remove the center logos though.
I also bought a HID kit (not for my headlights but for custom fog lights)
Along with the HID kit I bought some clear blinkers and corner lights, but decided against them (I actually like my ambers). I gave them to a friend (same year of truck), only to find out they don't even fit our year of truck (seller said they did ). Oh well, they are for sale if anyone is interested. They'll fit 92-95 4runners. I'll be throwing them in the classified section here in a few days.

Got my Addicted Offroad front bumper today. Couldn't wait for the powdercoat and put it on.
Also seen are my new Lightforce 170s, I have not hooked them up yet.

Modified my lights today, no more blinkers taped onto my bumper. Now I have combo lights! Click on the picture to see a video. Sorry for the low quality (cell phone that went for a swim three times), my camera is still at my friends house.
Calling a guy about powder coating tomorrow, oiled my bumper today to protect it a bit. Now to plan my light wiring.

Looking to get some sliders built while the TW group buy is going on. I need some help choosing the length. I made a thread in the Fab section: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f88/...length-250802/
