OK so between the two trucks what parts should I use, I know Im going to use the xcab wiring harness, 4runner trans and tcase, 4 runner front axle, IFS rear axle. but that is about it I would like to find another IFS rear Diff with the 4.30 gears so I could run 4.30's. But as far as things like the front hubs, front brakes, rear brakes, what would be the best combo I know Ive talked to someone before about running IFS hubs on a SFA but I don't remember, I will do some searching around, I just wanted to know if you had these two trucks what would you combine to build one?

The brakes on the IFS rear axle are bigger. The easiest brake upgrade is Toyota FJ60 Land Cruiser rotors with calipers from an IFS Pickup/4Runner. The V6 Pickups/4Runners had bigger calipers and pads. You can use IFS locking hubs on a SFA but you'll need to buy conversion gears. There's no benefit that I know of, just availability. If your SFA already has manual hubs just run those.

Additionally, if you use the IFS Pickup/4Runner calipers you'll need wheel spacers to keep the wheels from contacting the calipers. They will also match the front axle with the wider rear IFS axle.

Ok not the lock out portion of the hubs but the wheel assembly if that makes sense. I would put the IFS assembly on the SFA spindle, or maybe bold the whole IFS spindle on the SFA supposedly that does away with the need for spacers and will make your SFA match the IFS rear axle, and if I have all the parts to do this with out buying spacers why not.

IFS hubs on the SFA spindle is used for the Tacoma brake upgrade. There's a couple different configurations you can use. They both use Taco rotors, and you can either run minitruck calipers on the wrong side of the caliper tabs, or buy a special bracket to run Taco calipers. The only gain is that you can remove rotors without pulling the hub, and no wheel spacers are necessary. Neither one is a big enough selling point for me. Plus, you already have minitruck calipers, so less cost.

Ok so what Im talking about is putting the whole wheel assembly if that makes sense, the thing that floats on the wheel bearing it spaces the front out without the need for spacers.

I found it and will post it here just for my reference when I actually get around to that part of the build gotta get the funds to rebuild the engine then I can start the good stuff.

That's what I was talking about too. Like I said, the only gain is that you can remove rotors without pulling the hub, and no wheel spacers are necessary. Cons are it costs more and you need to buy more stuff.

Thanks! Hopefully my thread either provides some pointers or makes people a bit more aware of what they're getting in to. I see it in almost every thread concerning rust, someone says it's way worse than they thought.

started the tear down of the 85 4runner keeping what parts are good on it and creating a stash of yota parts, I cut the license plate area out of the runner tail gate to french into one side of the tail gate on the xtra cab, I plan on running a swing out tire carrier and I will put it on the opposite side of the truck from the tire. I also plan on cutting out the fuel filler on the runner to install behind the wheel well on the truck bed I want to run a cut down pickup tank behind the rear axle as a secondary/extended range tank. Both the 4runner and the pickup are the same color inside and out so I will be keeping a lot of the interior pieces as back ups, the only thing Im disappointed in is that some one dyed the original brown seats black and I was hoping to put the buckets in the pickup so I could run dual cases and the rear xcase shifter would have room.

There are a ton of parts that will interchange and you can combine the best of both trucks and come out with a good looking interior. I keep everything and it has paid of several times over.

Ok have a pair of 84 4runner SR5 buckets that are grey I would like to install them in the 86extra cab, no questions about that but what I would like to know is can I dye those seats to match my brown interior? They have vinyl on the backs that Im not worried about turning brown but the cloth part I would like to match my interior. I was looking at RIT fabric dye and wondering if that would work I wouldn't do it in the washing machine like the box suggests but probably in a drum. Has any one attempted to use RIT on truck seats before?

I have never tried to use RIT on truck seat. Years ago I used some red Kool Aid for some carpet without the sugar in it to brighten the carpet back up. It turned out pretty good. LOL

LOL I don't know of any brown kool aid tho! I've done some more research on the topic and it appear that the tuner crowd uses it quite a bit. So I might have some brown SR5 seats!
