Well, update! I pulled the toyota into the garage and ran a compression test on all cylinders... turns out they are fine! So I pulled the thermostat and checked it... and its fine! Only explanation? Plugged up coolant system... at least I was reading a post on here about a guy who had the exact same symptoms as me, and people were pointing towards the cooling system being plugged. So happy it isnt a head gasket!! I guess I have the opportunity to put a huge friggin radiator in it now! What do you all suggest?

2 or 3 core brass. works great for everything, easy to fix if it gets broken, and cheaper than aluminum. mine worked fine sitting in 90+ degree heat, a/c on, and in traffic
aluminum will also work, but it tends to be way overkill (unless you plan on boost). it's like getting an 8-burner gas stove for a studio apartment.
whatever you get, though, make sure it is ALL metal. plastic tanks can leak a bit if bent or cracked.

Thanks Irab! It has the 3 core stock brass radiator. I recently had it repaired, but they warned me it didnt have much life left. Wondering what may have happened. From what they told me, brass is way more expensive than aluminum. Where did you get your radiator?

radiator barn, before they closed down. just about any good online radiator store will have a good product line. i actually haven't bought a radiator in about 5 years, so i don't know of any specific suppliers.
i'm actually using my old 3-core brass radiator from my 22r-e on my 5vz-e swap.
as for price, aluminum with plastic tanks are the cheapest. all aluminum should be more expensive than brass. but like i said, it's been a while since i've looked at radiators

Been awhile since I was last on, been busy getting ready for baby and no money left over to work on the truck lol. Looking forward to the kiddo though, can't wait to meet the little guy.
Truck has been running great. Installed a new TPS a couple months ago and solved the idle jumping. Only thing I noticed with this aftermarket TPS is when the engine is cold, I get a little hesitation right off idle. Other than that it works well. Might have something to do with the adjustment on it, but I don't feel like messing with it again.
Getting ready for a trip on Saturday up in the mountains. Need to fix an oil leak hopefully tonight before we go. A new off road group started up in our town, so a bunch of trips are being planned for the rest of the year. I am glad to see they put something together again! The last trip they did was last weekend to Gas Tank Alley outside of Carlin NV. I didn't get to go but it looked fun.
Hope everyone is doing well. I hope to post some modifications to the bed storage system sometime this summer. We will see how far I get.

Oye
Sorry it has been awhile since I have been on. My suburban has soaked up the majority of my time. I will do a post later about it.
The toyota has been a great running champ. I had just finished rebuilding the front suspension with poly bushings, but then an unfortunate circumstance has me working on it again:
Was headed to work when I slid on solid ice in the parking lot. Not much I could do to slow me down.
Caved the front in far enough the fan impacted the front of the engine and damaged some of the components.
I had to leave for a few hours while I waited for the owner of the truck I hit to show up. Somebody else came sliding in and hit the back of me. They didn't care to stick around. They hit me hard enough it pushed my truck another 10 feet. You can see the dodge bumper I hit.
pretty messed up
Started tearing the old boy down to assess the damage. it won't be too bad to get it all back in one piece. I was able to remove all the belts on the engine, repair the broken battery cable, fire the ol boy up and drive it in to the garage. The radiator was still holding coolant some how. You don't need an alternator for this to run by the way.
Got the support all drilled out. Some rust but the core support I got from the junkyard will clean this all up.
As he sits in the garage right now. I think this is the perfect time to throw that 1UZ in I have sitting in the corner.

I was able to find a local guy who was parting out his ol toyota pickup. I was originally going to purchase the entire truck, but when I got there I saw it had been picked quite heavily already. Good news is that it had a near perfect stock 3 core radiator in it, so I picked it up just in case. I have mixed feelings about how well it will cool the Lexus V8. If that V8 fires up this weekend, I will start an engine swap thread and finish the rebuild of the front end there. This V6 will then be for sale if anybody is interested. Hope everybody has a great rest of the week!

Well, unfortunately the V8 didn't fire. Doing some diagnostics, I think I have a bad ecu for it. When I was running around in the local junkyard a couple months ago I saw an LS400 intact there, so I need to call them up and get a price on that ecu. Anybody have any insight to the ecu's for the 1UZ?
Also headed to Twin Falls, ID this weekend to get a hood for the truck. As long as I can get a shade of red I will be happy. I could be piecing this truck back together even before the swap, just haven't found the time. Anyway, I hope this V8 works out. Onwards and Upwards.

Sucks to see the fender bender you got in will be looking forward to seeing it back up and running! I'm doing a auto to manual swap on my 95 4runner now and I saw this on yours and would love to know what this nice little button does. Is it for auto start or does it cancel the need for pressing in the clutch to start?

Hey 4runner4evr, yes, that switch bypasses the clutch pedal. Never really use it, but it is nice when you want to start the truck but not have to climb all the way in it!
