91 4runner SAS/RUF Coils Rear

Alright I recently bought my beaten little 4runner with 240,000 miles on the odo and a hammered body for 600 dollars with nothing other then a 4 inch body lift and 31's. Drove it home and lost a headgasket about two weeks later, and the building commenced. I didnt intend on making a build thread but as i went along i discovered there arent many people to do the Ruf swap on these. Sorry some of the pics are kinda crummy.

"The Setup"
front axle: Rear hybrid leaf pack, trail gear hanger and shock hoops, boomerang greasable shackels, rancho rs 5000's, lockrite, birfield eliminators :nono:, x-over, 5:29's, ifs vented disks, trussed and armored.

Rear: OME 862's, ARB, 5:29's, homemade everything else to make it work.

"the goodys"

beginning the chopping, using a buddys thermaldynamics plasma for cutting the shackle slugs through the frame, did all of the ifs cutting with an angle grinder. :saw:

Was just getting a feel for what size shackle i wanted to use, ended up going with boomerangs.

hanger tacked in place, drink twice weld once?

other side done, getting the shackle tubes true'd were a huge pain in the ass, after some messing around I finally got them dialed in..

quick pause for the rides, my other yota/tow rig

sitting at ride height, need to trim the body mount as it sits its seriously hindering the droop.
http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/...Runner/002.jpg

first pass booger welds, these got ground and re-welded about three times (notice the gawdy body lift)

Now for the money shots, like i said this isnt full droop but this is all the flexed i could get it for the time being in 2wd... enjoy

Steering box moved about 3" forward with a modified trail gear steering box plate

This was all the "pre-game" just making sure everything was gonna work, since these were taken the frame has been cleaned up, shock tubes installed, everything been finish welded and painted and ive moved on to dealing with the rear. So far im going to be using OME 862's, homemade panhard drop bracket and homemade upper control arms, and slightly modified shock brackets. More pics tomarrow thanks.

That's a way to start it off!

9164RUNNER 03-04-2011 07:42 PM

Really good way to start!! That's what i wanna do, I'm going to see how the lancruiser springs do first then, SAS. Nice setup how are you doing the upper control arms?

Hammered_Runner 03-04-2011 07:44 PM

were gonna figure the uca's out when they get pulled out, probably just going to fisheye some 1 3/4 and use that. The size of the stock uca's scare the crap out of me

Thats sick. Hows your pinion angle and how long are your shackles? What did you end up using for a leaf pack?

And Welcome to YT!

Cant wait to see some trail pics of that beast.

Hammered_Runner 03-05-2011 06:24 AM

pinion angle and caster are similar to stock, the drop hanger really help that out, the shackles equate out to about 5 inches.

leaf pack is stock 83 main leaf and milwrap, 3-5 are cut from another set of rears. using 1 anti wrap leaf on one side to level it. They sit almost completely flat at ride height, and love going negative.

DUDE! U got a sweet deal. Who needs a good body anyways! You can have WAY more fun when dents are included in your purchase! nice build

Well heres the almost finished product, front driveline is in the works heavy wall with cromo spines. It rear steers horribly i kinda worried about it getting bound up, anyone with fj coils have any problems when flexed out? I got 22'' ss brake lines made for the front by G&J Aircraft & Competition for 40 bucks shipped to my door very knowledgable dudes.

Trail pics are in the works, special thanks for now to Better Offroad in oak harbor, wa, Datin fab, Sky offroad, TG, Arb, and Randys Ring and Pinion.

yea, when i first installed my fj coils, they would bump steer like crazy, but after i installed new shocks they drive like new. I had no problems with it when they were flexed out though, they seem to work fine but I am more than likely leaning towards just leafing my setup and just get it done right. The rig is definately coming out nice though....
