90 4runner #3 Exhaust Valve burnt, need help
I just took my 90 4runner in, had been getting a miss at lower rpms and major lack of power on hills.
The shop said my #3 exhaust valve is burnt and quoted me 2100 on getting it fixed. I only spent 1800 for the runner about 5 months ago and take good care of it. Already did the full tune up plugs, sparks, rotors, etc but it didn't help.
Just wondering if this is a fair price or if anyone has suggestions on fixing it? Also I saw information about recalls and wondering if contacting a dealer might help me out.
Thanks in advance for any information, I can't afford the 2100 but its my daily driver and I really love the truck.

1. No, it isn't. $2100 to do a valve job? That's highway robbery, frankly. You can EASILY buy an entirely rebuilt motor for that much.
2. Fix it yourself. What of it you can atleast. And aside from grinding the valves(and/or valve seats), you can do the rest of it yourself. For WAY less $$$.
3. No recalls apply. Don't bother contacting a dealer, unless you REALLY want to get ripped off.

$2100 is LUDICROUS! That's a pretty easy job, if you know what you're doing. If you're not comfortable seating the valves yourself you can get a new assembled head for $350 from Engnbldr here http://www.engnbldr.com/toyota-heads.html.

I'm not entirely sure what the point of your thread is here. But I can answer those questions for you...IMHO.

I'd be interested in a rebuilt motor if its something I could buy and get installed for a reasonable price. The 4runner is in great shape, lifted, good tires, 4wd works great, etc. I'm just not very mechanically inclined, my expertise stops at further than a tune up.
I'm just trying to figure out the best way to go about this for someone who can't do it themselves and was quoted 2100 by a local shop that's known for being honest.. And appreciate any help someone would have.
B-fake, seeing as you're also in seattle do you work on toyotas or know any good mechanics who could help me out?

I've never taken a vehicle to a mechanic so I can't recommend one from personal experience, but I have been told that Honest Auto Service in Shoreline on Aurora does good work. At least in the sense that when you get your vehicle back it's fixed and they didn't do anything to it to get it back in their shop a month from now. Don't know what they charge though.
