88/95 4 runner
I bought my first 4Runner about 6 weeks ago and some kind of way I already ran it hot and blew the heads and possibly the whole engine. It’s an 88. Found a 95 around for real cheap with a bad transmission. Both v6/autos. Will the 95 engine go in the 88 or 88 transmission go in the 95? Not sure which way I want to go.

I'm pretty sure the easiest thing for you to do would be an engine swap. but I'm doubtful about the connectors and sensors matching up so you should expect to be stripping both engines down to the block and heads (long block) if needed and install everything from the 88 onto the long block from the 95.
Maybe someone else can back up this info?
I would also recommend that you replace the timing belt and water pump while you have the engine out and stripped down. You may as well reseal everything you can get to or afford to.
