The black and white sounds like a good idea. That yellow is terrible.

Yeah its pretty bad, dont really know what the PO was thinking. He did do a pretty good job on the box/rack though. All of the places in which you walk are covered with what looks to be the roll on sandpaper crap for grip too. For the time being i will spray bomb the bars another color and probably spray bomb the trucks cab as well. Ive done some research on body work and this winter (or sooner) i am going to give the whole body some TLC to try and clean it up some.

Having a new toy is making it REAL hard to stay motivated at work.

If anyone is interested in another project i have check out the link below. I havent updated it in many months but have most of the information and work to be done in the thread already.

Just a quick vent.

I ordered a package from the states which came UPS. It was $83 and weighed less then 2 pounds. Shipping and duty came to $82 through UPS. Package came from California.

The same day i ordered my Smittybilt winch from south eastern united states (by the way im in western canada), its value was $300, it weighs 80 pounds, it came faster and the cost was the same. Im rather frustrated with this.

And....Im done ranting

i could not read the casting on the t case but if it is a np205 on the casting then it is a gm and they are gold to the big mudding guy and a twing stick is a good go for that t case. my good friend built his 1972 c10 and had 2 that came with the truck they are gear drivin t case's and dam near bullit prof. by the way thats a great looking truck and i know how it feels when you have to start right of the back puring $$$ in it. i think your going to be happy with it when your done that truck is going to be nasty

simpleman703 05-25-2012 07:22 PM

do you mind getting some more pics on the rad and how its set up

Sudstoy 05-27-2012 12:37 AM

I will take some more pictures when i get home from work in a few days. I do know that they are ran in series from one to the next. Truthfully i never looked around the truck to much so cant tell you much more then that.

simpleman703 05-27-2012 08:28 PM

thanks man

Sudstoy 05-28-2012 05:42 AM

I know its not very interesting, but coming from Jegs is an entire weatherpack starter kit, tool kit, refill kit and all the goodies i need to wire up the unit properly too.

simpleman703 05-28-2012 08:30 AM

thanks for the heads up on the weatherpack im going to be needing them soon and i didnt know were to look

Great rig so far! I definatley have some more ideas now

Sudstoy 06-02-2012 06:20 PM

Well im starting my long journey home in about 5 hours from now. My buddy sent me a picture of the front carrier with the spool installed. Pretty happy with the mesh pattern and it should look real nice when its all torqued up.

Heres two pictures of it, hoping to start the install once i land back in Canada.

Nice dude !!!

Sudstoy 06-04-2012 10:14 PM

Well i got the chance to dig into my rig finally for a few hours and stuff isnt looking that good. Turns out there are more problems then the PO decided to tell me about, but im not to worried about it.

Well where do i start????

Well i cleaned up the inside of the diff housing as well as the axles. Came out pretty clean and i stuffed the third member in. Dont have pictures of the diff installed but there isnt much to look at.

http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/...y/IMG_0687.jpg

When i talked about the problems i found here it is. I never noticed it before when i pulled the passenger side axle out but something had blown up causing some serious scoring.

http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/...y/IMG_0689.jpg

Turns out it was the top birf bearing. Since i cheaped out and never bought a new one it kinda put me to a hault tonight.

This is what i gathered from the bearing.

http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/...y/IMG_0688.jpg

I was able to finish the drivers side. I installed new bearings, seals, YT birf seal, and YT dust cover eliminator. i cleaned and greased everything and the tire is ready to go on. I will get some new bearings tomorrow and finish the passenger side. Ill try to grab some more photos as i go but its a pain to clean my hands just to take pictures!

Enjoy!

warmonger88 06-04-2012 11:19 PM

Thats exactly why I don't have many of my front axle rebuild, shop towels are too valuable a comodity to burn through for a few pics.

Sudstoy 06-05-2012 07:14 AM

If i can get the bearings first thing here this morning im gonna finish the front end and yank out the rear. I have somewhere around 20 hours worth of work do to before i can wheel it and i want to take it out friday so i gotta bust my ass.

Sudstoy 06-05-2012 07:17 AM

Oh yeah and after i got home i looked through the package that was shipped to me that i was complaining about the price a while ago, and they sent me the wrong ˟˟˟˟˟˟˟ things. Extremely frustrating.

Sudstoy 06-24-2012 10:21 PM

Well its been a while since i posted on here so i figured id do a bit of an update.

I was able to track down the bearing numbers right away for the birfield bearings and got that all put back together. Everything went fairly smooth on the front end. We got the rear end all built with the spool and new bearings. It did take a bit longer to get a nice mesh pattern but once it was done it was well worth the time, it looked much better then the front one, and the front looked pretty nice.

I put the rebuilt transmission back in. During the rebuild of this we found that the valve body was caked full of clutch material. We installed a shift kit and thats when we realized how bad it really was. Every time we pulled a valve out of the valve body there was a huge amount of crud in there. We did our best to clean it all out (not good enough). We did have somewhat of an issue putting the oil pump back together but eventually got it. Anyways, when i was attempting to bolt the torque convertor to the flywheel i couldnt get them to mate up correctly, after screwing around for half hour or so i remembered how ghetto this rig really is put together. There are spacers needed to make the converter bolt up to the flywheel. The reason for this is to make up for an adaptor plate when bolting a TH350 up to an Olds engine. Its ghetto but i left it as this is not a high revver and will only be a bush truck so it doesnt really matter to me.

Anyways trans bolted up nice after this and the transfer case went on alright as well.

My next problem came when i attempted to remove the rear brake lines to pull the axles out, i twisted a brake line and had to buy new. The good news about it was i got a chance to use my benders from Eastwood.

After everything was bolted back together and filled with fluids it was time for the road test. Gear engaugement on the hoist was crisp and good. Forward and reverse were working great. Got out on the road and shifted 1,2,3 no problem. Then all of a sudden i heard a whine and lost all gears, no forward or reverse. By this time its 230am and thank god my old man was helping and came out with a tow vehicle. I shut it down and got towed back to the house. Fired up the truck in the driveway and it worked fine again. Checked fluids, everything was fine. Drove around the driveway and into the shop where it happened again. Shut it off, started and it worked fine again. I have no idea what the hell is happening. It is either the pump is messed up or the valve body keeps sticking. In my opinion if the pump was already failing it would crap out and not work again so i am going with a valve body problem.

I ordered a new valve body from jegs, i got a TCI valve body designed for manual shifting.

The next day was Dday for going out camping with the boys wheeling. Ran it up and down the road a few times, every once in a while the trans would do the same, shut it off, start it up and it worked fine every time. I made the decision to run it as it was for teh weekend then at least i could kind of wheel.

One last thing to check... 4x4. Shift into 4x4 and the exact same noise was being made as when i bought the stupid thing. Turns out the terrible mesh pattern in the front end was not the culprit. There are only two things that can be making the noise, the first is the Tcase, the second is the front drive line. The drive line feels good and i can see no evidence of binding so i believe it is the Tcase. Which brings me to the next problem, its not a 205 like he said it is a 203 with a chain drive.

Once i got over the fact that i kinda got screwed on another item i was able to track down another 203 for free and will try it next chance i get. This is my cheapest option right now because i will have to get a new front drive line made.

Next time i work on the truck (hopefully wed), i will install the new tcase and the tci valve body and cross my fingers that i dont waste another 10L of ATF and how ever many liters of 80-90.

Really the only successful thing i have done lately was installed my winch and painted the front bumper. There have been several times that i have almost given up on this truck but i will keep trying a bit longer to get it done.

Pictures of the bumper are below. I will update some more when i get some more done. Still have all the electrical items to install.

Thats about it for now

westjohns yota 06-25-2012 05:43 AM

thats what happens when people throw a 350 in out little trucks, i myself see no point in it, im sure after the transmission trouble it will be fine, as far as the noise goes im a little stumped on that one

You Tube Mclean Creek, east fisher trail and it will give you an idea of why you put a 350 in a toyota. My truck is a baby truck compared to most in this area.
