My 85 SR5 build up
 

I just bought this project yesterday. 1985 Toyota SR5, 4×4, ONE OWNER yes I bought this off the couple who ordered it new in 1984 the best part is that it only has 106,××× original miles! Has the fuel injected 22RE motor with a 5-speed. EVERYTHING on this truck is original except for the tires and shift knob. Still has the owners manual in the glove box, original jack equipment in the velcro bag behind the seat, original paint, heck still has the original shocks on it, oh and of course....original rust unfortunately, not as bad as some but worse than others. I don't care this thing isn't even broke in yet and purrs like little sewing machine, heck even the key buzzer works. Not planning on anything to major, some 31x10.50's on some black beadlock wheels, maybe a 4" lift, prerunner type tube front bumper with a couple lights, and some satin tan paint. Wheels and bumper will be gloss black. I'm new here and will post some pics as soon as I figure out how lol.

Nice score on an original truck! It's getting harder to find a survivor with such low miles and that hasn't already been hacked on. Looks like you got a solid truck to start with. If you do get some new wheels I would hold on to those original ones, they're getting hard to find! Welcome to Yotatech, look forward to seeing more of your build!

What he said! Also, You can sell some of the original sr5 stuff you plan on replacing to fund what you want. I'm sure somebody would love to buy those rims for a resto. Good looking truck you have. I'm sure you'll read alot and change your mind 100 times. Most people do. There's so much info here. And everyone will tell you to search when you have a question but let me give you a tip: so many people have asked so many questions so many times that search results get flooded. Great find!!! It is getting hard to find survivor trucks out there. I had to go 200 miles, 3 salvage yards to get my SR5 wheels, the same as yours and they are far from perfect. Welcome to Yotatech.

Very nice Find. Looks to be in great shape. Cant wait to see where you go with this.

So far just cleaned it up inside and out, spray bombed over the rust, and changed the oil. Leaning more towards leaving it all original for a while. Going to go ahead and order some new tires thinking of just one size over stock and going with 235/75/15 Goodyear Wranglers for now. Might order a new set of shocks but it actually doesn't ride half bad on the originals. I know it's not very exciting news but for now I'm just going to enjoy it as a daily driver not so much a trail rig. If I get bored with it down the road I can make changes, but I kind of dig it being original for now.

If you're just going to get stockish size tires you can get some great deals on Craigslist, but if you buy new, when you buy from Walmart you get free rotations for life

Did this truck cost you your first born...or did you get lucky? Nice truck you have. I sure could have fun building that one

Got a little touch up paint on her, have the frame coated with rust converter (a little late) blacked out the wheel wells, roll in bedliner, and a new set of tires. I should have called this project daily driver, and no 1st born here I picked it up for $1600 bucks lol! I've already turned down plenty of chances to double my money, I've never been so thrilled over a rusty longed but I just love this little truck. Next up is to remove the back bumper, touch up the tailgate, and replace the front bumper probably with a new stock one.

I plan on blacking out my wheel wells too, so its cool to see how much of an improvement it made. dude your bumper looks fine to me, just an fyi, the $3 bumper end caps I just got from rockauto fit perfect and really complete the front end

Not a lot to report, cleaned up the back of the truck, removed bumper and sanded and painted her up. Looks a lot better, picked up a Reese hitch and will probably mount that next, have a small trailer to haul atv and junk. Had another guy stop me this week and try to buy it lol! Here's a little before and after.
