Mikes 85 Toyota 4Runner SR5

Hello everyone. Im new to this section lol. Anyhow id like to start off by saying this is my 3rd straight axle toyota ive owned. My first was a 85 pickup and my second was a 84 pickup. Now my 3rd is this 4runner. Im very familiar with the 4Runner as ive owned several but never a SA one.

Anyhow 5 days ago I was a proud owner of a 98 Toyota Tacoma. Build thread over in the taco section. I had a guy in Ohio message me on FB asking to trade a 4Runner for my Taco. He sent pics and I fell in love. We made arrangements the same day and ended up making a deal. So now I'm a Runner man.

Here's some Info on the runner.
1985 Toyota 4Runner SR5
22RE Engine
5spd 4wd
131,000 miles
Truck is fully loaded. Cruise Control, A.C, rear heat, sun roof, all electric, it has all the options offered in 1985 and everything works now lol.

Here's some goodies
Full interior RollCage, complete TG suspension front and rear MINUS SPRINGS. (HIGH STEER, SHACKLES, SHOCK HOOPS, EXT EXT..) lockers, rock sliders, Custom rear bumper, Extra Soft top.

Now onto some more info. Ive been tinkering with this thing from day one. Im unsure what all has been done to the engine. However I do know that it has a brand new timing set along with Head Studs and header.

It does have some minor issues tho that ive been working on.

Heres a list of parts that I've replaced since acquiring it on 6-18-2014.
New fuel pump, fuel filter, AFM, Denso plugs, cap, button, Wires, knock sensor, Oxygen Sensor, coil and igniter, ECM, Wiper Blades, Added a Sun Visor. Swapped out boggers for regular M/T's. Removed security alarm thingy along with all radio wiring. Not all this stuff was needed but I still done it. Please note it does run and drive but I plan on keeping it so I wanna have everything new and perfect lol.

Here's a few pics that I have. More will come later.

Nice looking 4runner, I wish mine came with half of those options, lol. I've always liked that wheel design.

Geeze man, you change Toyotas faster than I change gears! Do you still have that 3rd gen I sold you some interior parts for? Good looking truck though

Thanks guys for the compliments. As of right now she's setting in the driveway waiting for a heart transplant. She's not blown up or anything but ive got a brand new rebuild setting here that I'm swapping into her. Then ill rebuild the original for a back up.

I sold the little 3rd gen quite some time back. Thats when I bought the T100.

And yes the mesh under the bumper was a chair. With the Lower valence off the radiator has no protection. So that helps out until I build a bumper for it.

Im running a stock set of injectors. There made by BWD. Normally 89.00 per injector however I got all 4 of them for $150.00.

Here soon she's gonna get a real motor dropped in here. right now she's kinda a turf lol even with the new engine.

Local machine shop is charging me $240.00 to do all machine work to my old engine. This includes:
BORING
DECKING WITH TIMING COVER
CRANK AND RODS CONDITIONED
SOMETHING TO ALLOW BETTER OIL FLOW?
COMPLETE CLEANING

Spoke with Engine Builders yesterday. Im buying a complete master rebuild kit along with there fully assembled OFF ROAD H/O head. The head is ported and polished along with there 270 cam and over sized valves.

The next step will be me putting it together. I cant wait. once ive got that work done I'm moving on to my suspension. Im going with the exact same setup as ChefYota4x4. Ive spoken with him and he volunteered all info to me. Hes a awesome guy.

My front axle is already built up so id say it could handle 38's. However I'm planning on 35's. The rear is locked already however I'm unsure of the gear ratio that I'm running. So regardless I will eventually be geared down to 4.88's or lower.

Ive got big plans and hopefully that happen. I dont see this rig ever leaving my family so she'll be one hell of a rig one of these days.

Your 4runner is looking good, Nice pics! Is the flat black stripes on the hood, and around the fender wells and lower body panels bedliner, or just flat paint? I like the color scheme with the gloss and flat black, subtle and looks really good!
