Casebite's 1985 xtra cab build(om617 inside)
Figured I would post my buildup/swap for others to enjoy...
I found my 85 Yota posted on Craigslist for $800 and it was about 30miles away as well so I couldn't really resist. It had been sitting in a barn for the previous 5 years or so, it had mild front end damage, no rust in the cab, and the engine ran. After talking the owner down to $700 I loaded it up and went home.
when I got it home
the next day I removed the bed
and painted the wheels black, cleaned it up, and drove it around
I sourced a om617 off of craigslist for $300 and a 4x4 labs adapter kit, Thanks Luke!
I sold my 22re 4runner to fund the project, I still miss her...
I dont have a shop or concrete, so in the meantime...
Got the engine pulled
Rebuilt the transmission
Insulated the ENTIRE cab! (Peel &Seal FTW) encapsulated the seams w/ HVAC tape so it doesn't stink in Texas summers
Got the adapter kit and exedy Stg1 clutch installed

More pics
First run to get fuel, Unfortunately I have to change out my fuel fill port b/c diesel nossles are larger than gas, for now I've been using a long funnel
bumper I built, I'm too cheap to buy one
I'll post more pics and some vids later today, but as of now I've put over 1500 miles on the truck w/the swap, I'm averaging 22mpg w/mixed highway/city driving. after x-mass I'm going to install some monarch injector nozzles, maybe a larger turbo to keep boost lower at highway speeds and for more power when I need it. Stay tuned....

It's running great so far, just drove it to Oklahoma to visit family. Registered 29mpg all highway on the 300 mile trip, only used alittle over half a tank! So far I have about $5k invested in the truck in parts. I'm using the factory 300sd Mercedes radiator and oilcooler, had to notch the frame and remove the front frame crossmember and extend it forward as well. More pics soon!

The tires poke out a little on the sides and rub alittle towards the back of the front wheel well only when I full turn. I think the angle of the pic hides alittle of the frame rail b/c it sticks out a good 3-4" after the body lift.

I was going to use the factory gauge but I sold the 22r(w/the sending unit) before I started the swap ... I'm eventually going to buy a new factory sending unit and ditch the extra temp gauge and move my boost gauge to it's spot. If you have anymore questions just lmk, I'd be happy to help!
