Your obsession for 1st gens is doggedly devoted, man. Were you suckled as a baby boy inside one? Haha

This truck has some promise.. But any reason why you're against the Lincoln locker? Friend of mine runs one and he likes it!

gieselman 05-06-2014 09:09 PM

I don't like the fact you always engaged so going around turn tears up tires, and makes it difficult to turn. I had a buddy whos jeep was Lincoln locked and got on it in gravel and then went onto pavement snapped a axle shaft didn't realize it for a couple days. can be very dangerous. if its strictly a toy I could understand but I wanna be able to d/d this truck if I have to.

Same with spools I ran one in my big block bronco on 40"s broke many axles mostly on pavement

Welcome to Yotatech and it is looking like you are getting alot of the rust out. I got to go camping in the deserts a couple of times my self. Was at Riley a while back and didnt see many Toyotas up there. Looking forward to your build.

I searched for nearly two years for a good original bed with absolutely no luck. Given your central location in the States, your search range is pretty beneficial for positive results - you'll want to scope out the junk yards in the dry areas of Nevada, California, Arizona and New Mexico to get a good rust free bed, but there still is no guarantees and they are only becoming more rare as they get hacked up or beat against rocks and tree.

I ended up buying my bed from Corey at ToyotaFiberglass.com. The price is steep and may not be worth it to you unless you are doing a full restoration like I am (and obviously have the money). Mine came up to roughly $3,200 shipped. That includes the shortbed, tailgate, tailgate hardware fuel door and mounting hardware. All I should have to do is paint it, install the tail lights and bolt it on. I've heard nothing but good about his products and I know that the longevity will far exceed any restored original steel bed. It does take a while to get a bed from him because he is so backed up with orders, but from my experience so far the guy is really great to do business with - He truly believes in his products. My bed was actually shipped out last week and should be here in a couple days. I plan on posting pictures and a thorough review of the bed upon receiving it so people know just what they are getting - I'm almost certain that it will meet AND exceed all of my expectations.

Do not choose the darkside Luke. It will consume you.

Use the force.
