Mortal Yotas 1980 4x4 Build Project Old Yeller
I have a build going over on the marlin crawler forum and figured i'd throw it up on here.
Hey everyone I figured it was time for me to start a build so i can get some motivation and to document my build. I picked up a super clean 1980 yota 4x4 for $2500 about a month ago. I've had some issues with getting it snogged (CO levels too high) I've rebuilt the carb and its still no good so i ordered a weber 32/36 yesterday. Hopefully that takes care of my problems. Anyways heres the story behind the truck. Im the second owner i bought it from a older man who bought it new in 79 and has garaged it since new. Its super clean the whole under-body, frame, and axles are all black still. Its got 126800 miles on it and a brand new set of tires. Heres the plan, i not goin to do anything crazy just some 3 inch trailgear leafs or some OME leafs convert to power steering maybe put a locker in the rear axle and eventually put some 31's on it after my current tires wear down. Further down the road i'll throw some wheel spacers on it and maybe some dual cases. This is going to be a slow build so bear with me im a broke student. Onto the pics! http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/...7/CIMG0877.jpg http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/...7/CIMG0878.jpg http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/...7/CIMG0879.jpg http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/...7/CIMG0816.jpg http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/...7/CIMG0821.jpg http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/...7/CIMG0820.jpg http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/...7/CIMG0824.jpg http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/...7/CIMG0825.jpg http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/...7/CIMG0826.jpg Did a few things to yeller this weekend Saw a ad on CL for a weber carb went to check it out and ended coming home with all of this instead. http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/...7/CIMG0875.jpg http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/...7/CIMG0876.jpg Friday night I threw the front shackles on http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/...7/CIMG0880.jpg Didnt do much saturday but today I put the rear shackles on and repainted the new bumper and threw it on http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/...7/CIMG0881.jpg http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/...7/CIMG0882.jpg http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/...7/CIMG0883.jpg http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/...7/CIMG0885.jpg http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/...7/CIMG0886.jpg So now im on the lookout for a set of 3 inch leafs and parts to convert over to power steering I'm also thinking of mounting some offroad lights in my push bar. You guys have any suggestions as far as what lights to run? |
Alot of people love kc day lighters , goes 2500 for that???, that things cherry
|
Yep got it for 2500. Pretty cheap for CA but i've probably put about 1000 into it by now.
|
very nice man, i bought an 82 off a guy and its about as clean minus the little rust i have and needing a headgasket
|
Ya ive seen it. Its pretty clean has its dings and dents and has some rust but its a nice DD
|
Nice rig, for a Yeller one. JK

Dont be hating on my yellow yota!!:domo:

Did the shackles throw off your front pinion angle? How much did it lift up the front and back?
How about ride quality? Very nice truck!! |
I can grab a pic of the pinion angle tomorrow but it didnt set it off too much. Nothing to worry about for sure. And it improved rear pinion angle quiet a bit. I put new shocks on too when i put the shackles on and it rides SOOOOOOOOOOOO much better. And it lifted the front and rear 2 inches
|
Thanks!
Who makes the shackels? I saw a logo but could not make it out. |
Con Ferr they where used and the company's no longer in business. I'd get a pair with grease able bolts from marlincrawler.com
|
Hey Thanks for the info!!
If you ever want to sell the 437s let me know!!! |
ive got 4.30s thank god! :D
|
The 4:37's are defiantly nice. They should be perfect with a set of 31's
|
I got a nice little package in the mail today

Lucky you. When I get there in my build, would like to upgrade to a Weber
|
The weber is great!!!! I finished putting it on yesterday and i notice a huge difference. It starts a whole lot easier and i have more power and a little better fuel economy. I'll get some pics up later of the carb installed
|
I've seen your truck around the streets of Santa Rosa a few times, I was pretty happy to see you have a build thread on it!
You have a really clean truck, and I've wanted to say so since that first time I near twisted my head off my neck trying to ogle at it. |
Haha really? Thats pretty funny thanks
|
Alrighty finally passed smog with flying colors.
