The Onion comes home.

A little rough but, it's all there.

Where can I find these "shift pads"?

Cleaned up a bit. The original cassette player still works.

New knuckles, new KO2's, new old school rims. Passed smog after carb rebuild. Not bad for only 148k original miles.

What rust?

Grinded and all rust cut out and metal patched.

Frame to be painted.

I've got better speaker covers. But these door panels were redone perfectly.

Sweet!

Another awesome 1st Generation Truck that is getting the love it deserves! :great:

I can see a lot of work has gone into the restoration already.

It is nice to see that the radio bezel had not been cut up, and has the factory radio / cassette player too!

How did you come up with the name Onion?

:safari:

First layer back on The Onion

Front first layer.

Interior came out pretty good.

My buddy Joe who helped me initially get the truck running said, "This truck has several layers to restore, almost like an Onion".
Well, several layers later, it's still has more to go.
A guy a work had this truck parked for a long time. After bugging him for several years, he sold it to a co-worker. The co-worker decided it had too many layers and sold it to me a couple of weeks later.

This is the 5th Toyota truck I've owned. I've regretted selling everyone of them. I'm currently running a '17 TRD Sport. But, even with all the creature comforts, I found this truck is more fun to drive.
Further to follow!

Door panels

Who or where did you have your door panels done at? They look awesome and I am looking to redo mine that are the same color scheme.

The guy who did the interior is out in Baldwin Park, CA. I'll get the info from my paint guy tomorrow. They did a great job on rebuilding and reupholstering the seats. I was impressed with quality of headliner and carpet as well. I will take more detailed pics and list a breakdown.

Any chance you could share the name of the guy who did the interior? Thanks

Nice Ride. As far as those shift pads go. Back in the 80s when we bought these trucks brand new, we used BMX or motocross handlebar pads on the main shifter to dress it up a bit at truck shows.
