These are my 4th set. The truck came with these tires and I just love them. 170,000 on it now. Last month I changed my interstate battery, got 6 years minis 1 day out of it, great. I know, I don't get out much

A current status on the pickup:

The carburetor was acting up and a shop determined that it need a carb rebuild and a new intake gasket. I got quoted around 700 for the carb rebuild/intake gasket as well as a valve adjustment (of course parts as well). I was not going to pay that much and felt confident that I could do the job myself now that I know what the issue is.

This past weekend I got the carburetor off and close to pulling the intake.

The first issue I am already seeing is the gasket that came with my Carb rebuild kit from NAPA. I noticed that the gasket I got that goes between the intake and insulator does not match the design of the insulator.

Here is a pic of the gasket I am referring to that I received from NAPA

Below is what my insulator looks like and what I believe the correct gasket should be.

I am trying to see if I can purchase this gasket separately from toyota but do not see it anywhere. I found the part number to the insulator but I do not know why there is no gasket for it. I believe I read on another thread that the insulator had a gasket already attached but I do not know how true that is.

Does anyone know if I can purchase this gasket on its own? I am thinking about ordering the insulator from Toyota since it is around 30 dollars and just hope it does have the gasket.

The photos look great! Thanks for sharing!

As far as I know, the original gaskets were bonded to the insulator and were one unit. You might be able to see a thin layer on the top of the insulator that is part of the original gasket. It is very hard to see.

The carburetor rebuild kit I got from Autozone had both types of gaskets you show. I haven't seen that gasket separately myself.

Thanks for commenting. I ordered a new insulator from Toyota yesterday and I am hoping it does have the gasket bonded to it and if so then I dont't have to worry about that gasket. If I really have to then I will just try to return the kit from NAPA and purchase the autozone kit as you mentioned.

I received the new insulator that I ordered and was able to confirm that it does come with the gasket on both sides. I do not need to worry about finding that individual gasket anymore.

Hope you changed out all the gaskets on the bottom of the intake. You sure don't want a coolant leak after putting it all back in.
And, clean up that engine block will ya. Just saying...............

I'm having a hard time deciding if i should really replace those gaskets because they were not leaking before. I would hate to mess with them and they start to leak.

The block is nice and dirty from all that fun I had in the Mud haha but i will make sure to clean it up

I didn't know the insulator was still available.

That is awesome!

Hopefully everything fires up alright. Good luck!

Thank you and I always use https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/ to check on part numbers and see if they are still available. Doesn't hurt to call Toyota and ask before buying from NAPA or somewhere else.

Cleaned up the block a tad bit per Mikes request

I also decided to resurface the intake manifold myself instead of taking it to a machine shop. I purchased a piece of laminate wood from Home Depot and some sand Paper and the results came out great. I got the idea from someone I follow on instagram.

I screwed the wood down to my bench so it wouldnt move and used adhesive spray to stick the sand paper to it.

Here is the Final result.

Mike, I also decided to replace the gasket underneath like you mentioned. To be honest, I already had the gasket the entire time I was just fearful of doing it and you will read why below

What i expected would happened ended up happening and I broke 3 of the bolts. A buddy of mine took the intake to a shop he knows to try and get them out. I will post an update when i get it back.

These are the 3 bolts that snapped right off.

O man, now that sucks. Sorry I talked you into it, but, if were that rusted they were ready to break and start leaking. At least you got to fix it on your terms and not stuck on the side of the road.
Nice job on the block and resurfacing the intake.

I went to a local hardware store who carries every bolt you can think of and they recommended these bolts below for my intake because of the heat. I'm just curious why the bolts are black and if I should really use these for the intake manifold? Not really worried about the color but I think people usually use zinc plated right? They are both labeled 10.9
