1982 Toyota Pickup build
#22
Nice looking truck, and appears to be a pretty solid 1st gen. I like the Buick V6 swap, its a great motor for these little trucks. Much easier/simple to work on than most yota motors, and way more torque. If you do some research "or may already know" that motor is praised for its reliability.
You can check out my first gen build under "twin 1980 yota builds"....I thinks that's what I titled it when I posted it about a month ago. Could give you some ideas for your truck....
I have an 82 I just started work on, and need to start the build post as well. Looks like your making good progress, keep us up to date. Really dig the V6!

Well got the engine and trans in today. What a total PITA! I cant imagine trying to squeeze a v8 into one of these things... Now its a matter of bolting everything back together.

Cleaned up the wiring by running one wire from the battery to a terminal block. Then took leads off of that to a fuse box. One is for the fuel pump, one for the radio, and two left for lights or something later on. Much cleaner than the birds nest it was before.

I also have a 90' with the 22re just love the body style and solid axle of the first gen's.

Thanks, the 79-83 Toyota will always be favorite by far. Those were the trucks Toyota built its name on, and started the whole mini truck 4x4 craze.
The V6 does look like a tight fit, but I bet the performance is pretty nice over the weak 22r.

It should have around 200 ft lbs of torque which if I am not mistaken is almost double the 22re that I have. The 22r series is great but you need low gearing to make that torque more usable.

It was hard enough to get this to fit in.. I can't imgine trying to squeeze two more cylenders! Headers back to 2.5 exhaust into a flomaster 40 that dumps behind the driver door.... sounds pretty good

Not sure if anyone is following this or not but here is the latest;
I have been very very busy recently so this hasn't gotten much focus. Got the fenders and the hood back on, next will be the grill. Have to go back to school so she will sit more

No this was a few months ago, weather is getting better every day, although there is a hint of snow in the forecast for the week. Too many projects and too little time. Ive been working on a 69 dart recently so the toytoa has been getting little attention.
