1980 4x4 is diing on hard breaking
hey guys trying to see if anyone has figured out this problem im having ... first let me explain a bit about the truck. got it early this year it had an aftermarket intake a weber carb and it had bald mismatched tire and drove it home 50 miles for 1500 from out in the mountains.
drove for a while (months daily)... so i got some new tires and wheels...
so went out the off-road vehicle park (7 mile orv) and the battery ended up coming disconnected in that moment the electric fuel pump and the igniter blew up......towed it home .... replaced the bad parts with the gm igniter. later one day same thing happens to this igniter so i get it home replace igniter run it and find it over charging. at about 18+ volts. i tried replacing the alt. and the regulator and the problem persist. so the last couple of nights doing the gm alternator swap using the trail gear brackets (i would recommend for anyone with reoccurring charging issues) also got an igniter/coil out of an 81 2wd at pull and save. wired it to the factory 1980 plugs works and looks great except the tach. alsoe the head ont the truck ...... the valve cover says 20r but it has no place for a manual fuel pump and the exhaust manifold has only one bolt in the center i thought it should have the type where it has two down pipes and two bolt in the center... idk whats going on there i want to got to the two down pipes and manual fuel pump i have everything but the head.
but the only problem left ....on hard breaking it slowly kills the engine. but at a stop already and slightly pressing the brakes as to not move it doesn't kill it. also the power brakes feel good till it dies ... i have a hose to the booster straight from the intake manifold. what do you think?
