thanks for showing me the obvious! jeez, didn't i say that the pictures made it obvious that the thing was wrong.
if you look on the link under performance, it clearly states that the rear suspension is independent.

What's the biggest lift & tires that can fit on the 5th gen?
Seriously, the first time one drove past me the other day, I thought it was a Sequoia, it was so wide. Then I realized it was the new 4Runner.
However, I do like the more rugged-looking front compared to the 4th-gen.
...if I had to get a new rig, I'd probably still get one though. Just wish it were skinnier.

Hi Pat, congrats on the new purchase.
Yes, VSC.
I can make mine do that in the snow or ice by goosing it.
Beeps, lights, and the throttling down of the engine happen when it kicks in.
Kind of an annoyance sometimes, as it is just like someone turned your engine off and you have no throttle control.
But it does straighten the rig out.
One time last year when we had snow at work I goosed it leaving while taking a right turn.
It kicked in on my slide and I let go of the steering wheel and the rig drove itself
It completely straightened out and then I had throttle again.
Very bizarre feeling.

We got some fresh snow yesterday morning so at the Depot parking lot I did exactly what Corey did with the exact same result...straightend right out...unbelievable and very cool. This really has some neat features!
Thanks for shedding some light on that question too KZN185W

A few 2010 4Runner owners have posted in there as well.

How prophetic...
So I got a new rig, a 2012 Trail:
Thought the mod bug would still be in hibernation for at least a few more months, but it is already back.
New sliders from BudBuilt:
Overall, pretty nice rig. More creature comforts and more offroad-related knobs compared to my 3rd gen. Still has a manual 4WD lever for that positive feedback.
The undercarriage protection leaves much to be desired though. The "skid plates" are made of a much thinner material so if you expect to be bashing on rocks, beefier aftermarket plates are a requirement. This is especially true for the gas tank skid as the tank is now plastic instead of metal.
