*HELP* Bringing a commuter back from the dead *HELP*

so since im starting to run out of gas money dd my yota running 35's with 5.29 gearing i dug my moms old car from out behind our garage where its been parked for, coming up on 8 years.
Its an 88 mazda 323 (non turbo ) when she parked it, there was nothing wrong with it to keep it from running, the clutch slipped a little and she decided she wanted a bigger vehicle. Since i have dug it out i managed to set the air filter on fire using eather trying to get it to start. (its a long story but no i wasnt spraying it onto the air filter) Right now all i can get the car to do is start idle for 3-8 seconds then die, if you touch the gas AT ALL it will either, not start or die instantly. Except if you floor it and turn it over it will start and rev to the moon, but as soon as you back off it dies. I dont have any idea what to check to get this thing to run and be driveable any sugestions?

heres a list of things i have done (in order):
1. "new" battery from a junkyard
2. put the fuel pump on a toggle switch because it wasnt getting any power through the old wires, works great now.
3. whole new fuel pump and assembly
4. ran injector cleaner through it
5. new fuel filter
6. drained the almost decade old gas and put new gas in it

So any suggestions on what to do or check for for why it wont run for more than a few seconds?
Thanks in advance
