Civic Shifter Help

Hey, So all you import gurus, I need help. I have a Crx with a b20 and a b17 tranny, the problem is the shifter.
| 1st|-------------------------3rd -----------------------------|5th|
|2nd|------------------------- 4th-----------------------------| R |

Thats basically what my H pattern on the shifter is like, 1st and 2nd are not that bad, but 5th and Reverse are near impossible, is there any adjustments I could do? Or do I need a new shift linkage or to deal with it?

Thanks for your help.

I don't have that much experience with a b series, but I know my way around an a20. With my Accord, 1st 2nd and 4th are near perfect, 3rd and 5th need to be babied in at the right rpm, and the only way reverse is happening is if I throw it in 1st then reverse real quick. When I did the manual swap I replaced the clutch cable and it worked flawlessly. Now after almost a year I'm almost certain the cable has stretched some and the clutch isn't engaging all the way, which means the transmission is still turning when it's going in gear.

Adjust the clutch cable to where you have about an inch of play at the top of the pedal before the clutch engages. Change the fluid in the transmission, the book recommends 10w40 but I use standard gear oil. Check the bushings on the shift linkage, there could be too much play int he shifter not allowing the trans to go in gear.

Hope this helped you out.

What kind of shift linkage are you using? If it's not that, it could be the synchros going bad. But that is usually 1/R, not 5/R.

Bassmastry, it sounds like your synchros are going bad.

From your diagram im assuming you're trying to say the shifter is having to travel to far sideways to get into gear?

Id check linkage bushings and make sure the roll pin isn't missing on the transmission end of the linkage.

Probably, I didn't expect much from a cheapo junkyard trans. Might look into a rebuild or a prelude trans when the clutch wears out.
