Good 3.0 auto transmission with t-case (A340H) in Oklahoma

SOLD

SOLD

This is a good, one owner, A340H auto tranny/transfer case combo from my 93 ext cab 4x4. The torque converter is included too. It had 115,812 miles when I removed it to do a 3.4 swap. Price reduced to $899, in the Oklahoma City area.

It's complete except I took the speed sensor out of it.

The over-heat light has never come on with it and the ATF was flushed at fairly regular intervals. The only towing done with it was a few trips to the tool rental place near my house (very short trips at slow speeds).

History:
6/12/93 I bought the truck new (50 miles on odometer)

2/3/95 Complete flush was done @ 15,018 miles by the dealer (Toyota ATF).

1/22/97 Complete flush done @ 41,908 miles by the dealer (Toyota ATF).

8/1/02 A drain and refill was done @ 92,880 miles (Toyota ATF).

9/5/03 The pan was dropped, filter changed, and magnets cleaned @ 100,327 miles with a refill (Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF). The filter was hardly dirty at all but I had already bought a new one before I dropped the pan so I replaced it anyway. The magnets just had the normal amount accumulation on them.

9/10/03 that was followed by a complete flush (Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF) @ 100,440 miles.

8/5/04 This Hayden transmission cooler was added at 105,000 miles, just as a precaution, there was never any indication of overheating problems (as I said, the over-temp light has never come on):

In march 2006 I started my 3.4 swap and the tranny was removed at 115,812 miles and was working great when removed.

Here's some pics of it coming out:

I did make one mistake while removing the tranny (the first one I ever removed) I didn't unbolt the torque converter (TC) from the drive plate so when I slid the tranny back from the engine the TC seperated from the tranny and stayed with the engine. Because of this there is a slight possibility the TC seal could have been damaged but it looked ok to me. The fact that I used a tranny jack and removed it very carefully probably helped, but you may want to check that seal yourself or just replace it as a precaution.

All the openings, like where the ATF cooling lines connect, were wrapped and sealed when disconnected to keep any dust or dirt out. The pan was not removed and the kick down cable is still connected. It's been stored wrapped in plastic in a storage room since being removed from the truck.

Here's my feedback thread:

That is a pretty good deal Dale. Around here a good used A340H can go up to over $1200.

I just bought a whole truck so I would have an extra transmission. For what a front seal cost, I would NEVER install a transmission without popping one in. That is a lot of work to pull this unit.

Hey, I was wondering if you still had the engine wire harness for the 3.0 auto.
And if so how much you want for it.
Thanks

Sorry, that went with the engine.

My trans is starting to act up. I just wanted to subscribe to this until it's dead. Hopefully you'll still have yours when it dies.

My tranny is getting ready to kick the bucket probably in the next 20k miles...the fluid has been changed twice in the last 4500 miles and the filter changed once and cleaned the magnets...and the fluid is still really dirty. But, it shifts just fine still.
It would be cool to have an extra tranny around when it finally does bite the dust, but unfortunately I don't have the money to buy it right now. Put it on Ebay...somebody will probably buy it there.

I will consider delivering this a reasonable distance (<800 miles), if you help with gas $$$. That would get it to Denver, Albuqurque, Little Rock, Houston, St. Louis, etc... Must pay at least half before I load it up though. :D

I am really thinking about this offer. Good thing it has the Tcase too, I really need that. I wonder how much shipping would be for me.
This summer I should save up all the money I need to buy it.
I hope you still have it by then.
Please hold on to it! Glad to see you took good care of it.

Ok, will do. I really don't know how much shipping would be, mainly because I don't know for sure how much this thing weighs. Its too heavy for my bath room scale hehe. :hillbill: If anyone wants to arrange a freight company I'll deliver the tranny to a local shipping dock. I've heard this company is good, but I've never used them: http://www.forwardair.com/locations/falocations.htm and they do have a local shipping dock here in OKC.

Here are some other shippers I found, but once again I've never used any of these type companies.

I almost (ALMOST) wish my tranny were bad, yours looks nice & clean. If I had the extra dough I'd buy it just for a spare since I prefer automatics to manuals in everything except motorcycles & hot rod touring cars built for curves.

Free bump for you, especially seeing as how you're willing to drive quite a distance to help out....that 800 miles would put you nearly at my door! :bigok:

infiltrator 02-27-2008 02:10 PM

Hmmm you are 1,356 miles away. 800 for you, 556 for me! That's only 5 fillups round trip if I get little more than 200 miles per tank. At around 50 bucks per fillup thats 250 bucks. Hmmmm. How much you want for gas? Haha. I wonder if I could drive 1000 miles in a couple days. Where to sleep? Food? Trailer? Ahhh!

I really wonder how much it would cost to ship. I will be researching this. Maybe ORS or Marlin will know how much it weighs.

PS, How do you move this thing? Cherry Picker? $$ Chaching!

mt_goat 02-27-2008 03:08 PM

Yeah I pick it up with a cherry picker. Yeah it might be cheaper to ship it than to pay for the gas to deliver it.

infiltrator 03-04-2008 07:02 AM

Hey Dale,
Found a really nice Cherry Picker on Craigslist for $100. I need one anyways if I am going to do my 3.4 swap. If you get a chance try to find out how much this thing costs to ship for my area (91355) I think the tranny is rated at about 250-300lbs. Its a beast! If not, I can sure call around.

Both Marlin and ORS said it would be easier to do the 3.4 swap with a 2nd gen 4x4 tranny/tcase.

One question, you took out some speed sensor thing, do I have to get one of those too from a salvage yard? I am planning on getting the whole center console so I get the extra shifter, so let me know if I need to ask for that as well.

I am very very surprised this has not sold yet. I really really really am interested in this, but I have to wait untill summer because then I can get a good full time job (no school for like 3 months just about) and pump out some cash for my 3.4 and everything. Keep it safe till I can get a hold of it.

Marlin and ORS must have been talking about the manual tranny, I guess its easier, but I doubt the auto would be easier because the 3.4 ECU doesn't match up (sensor wise) to the A340H, its made to run the 3.4 auto tranny.

You could just swap in the speed sensor you have now, that way it matches your speedometer and gearing. Its just 1 bolt holding it in, very easy to swap.

I have the shifter part of the console if you want that I'll throw it in (its for a gray interior).
