Will later Tacoma 2WD Tacoma wheels fit on a 91 2WD pickup?

New guy here. I've driven Toyota Pickups and Runners since 83 and regularly lurk here when I run unto a problem I can't seem to solve. You people seem pretty knowledgeable.

To the point: I recently bought a 91 4x2 pickup. It had aftermarket 14 wheels and I prefer factory steels. I bought some wheels from Craigslist, 15's, supposedly from a very late model Tacoma. They look like Tacoma wheels. The bolt pattern is the same as my 91. I can work with the offset differences, but the hub hole is much smaller than what fits my 91.

Do the late Tacomas have smaller diameter hubs or are these wheels not from a Tacoma? All the research I did suggested that both the late Tacomas and my 91 both have 60.1 diam hubs. What am I missing? Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give me?

There's a stickey about this but so far not much info has been offered up about swaps different owners have done. If I learn more I'll post back because I'm considering swapping 2015 six lug 16 inch wheels to replace my 1992 15's. I suspect they may bolt right up. I've always used 235-75-15 tires on my 4wd yota. Good luck to both of us!

I don`t know about a 2WD I never looked at one.

My 2000 Tacoma Aluminum wheels have the same bolt pattern as all my other Toyota 4x4`s

I had them on the 87 and 92 4Runners.

My 1992 4WD extra-cab 22RE with 305K - never been apart, no leaks, "Mr. Reliable". . .best vehicle I ever owned!

This might help someone looking to swap out wheels:

I acquired a set of OEM Toyota wheels from a 2015 Tacoma. They bolt up perfectly. My 1992 4WD extra cab came with 225-75-15's and these late model wheels are 16's wearing 245-75's. Plenty of clearance left. Naturally the truck sits slightly higher and the speedo shows a bit slower. Even though the truck is powered by the 22RE I don't notice much in the way of slower acceleration with the higher ratio. It will undoubtedly show up in the mountains though. Here are photos before and after. Notice that the center caps worked well on the rears. I had thought I'd have to use the original black centers.

About to swap out the original 15 inch wheels wearing 235-75's

With the late model 16 inch wheels wearing 245-75's - slight height increase, about 1.5 inches

center caps fit nicely - they snap tight when the wheel is mounted, but not if the wheel is off, unlike the original black centers which will stay on the wheel when it's removed

note: manual hubs

I was concerned that the width of the different wheels would hang outside the fender but it worked out nicely.

Hi man, my truck is also a 4WD extra cab, but 1994. I'm looking to swap wheels, and was thinking to swap for precisely those Tacoma wheels.

However, as I understand from this site:

https://www.wheel-size.com/size/toyo...#trim-4wd-usdm

Our truck OE wheels have an offset range of -10 to 20 mm.

The Tacoma wheels which you fitted have instead a positive offset of 30 mm.

https://llantasneumaticos.com/size/t...7-4wd-usdm-159

Any problems due to this difference?

I currently have 31 x 10.50 R15 BFGoodrich Mud Terrain tires fitted on my wheels.

Thanks!

BMarino:
As you indicate, the offset is more on the later model wheels - 30 as opposed to 20 mm.
It appears that the extra 10 mm offset causes no problem because I've run the newer 16 inch Tacoma wheels for more than a year.
Tires went from Yokohama 235-75-15 108S previously to Hankook 245-75-16 109S on the newer 16 inch wheels.
No worries to date. Tires are wearing evenly, braking and steering is perfectly normal.
Before I purchased the later model wheels, I tried them on my truck. They bolted up perfectly and rotated without a hitch.
About the only difference I've noticed is an ever-so-slight increase in ground clearance.

Hope this helps

I used Tacoma Steel wheels on my 1992 4x4, with 265/70/16's with no lift and have not had any problems. i did put flairs on the front fenders to cover them.

Fit fine on my '92 XCab

the tires are 265/70R16 and the alloy wheels are from a later model Tacoma:

The offset/backspace is quite different, but it worked fine as the tires do not stick out from the wheel wells so no hassle from LEOs about needing flares/flaps, and they look much better than the stock wheels. I did need the different lug nuts for the alloy wheels as the ones for steel wheels would not work with these wheels. These raised up the truck about 1.5" from the smaller 15" stock wheels/tires.

I have some 16" steel wheels too - I think they came from a 4Runner, but I could be wrong. I will be putting some aggressive mud tires on the steel wheels for use around the property, and use the alloys with all season tires for the street.

Great results, "The Heretic" - those wheels worked out superbly for you.

The Heretic:
Those wheels worked out like mine did - no problem. However, I used my original lug nuts without an issue. By the way, nice looking truck you have there.
Mine is my daily driver with now 340 k miles and no issues to speak of. Those 22RE's are forever.

OP was talking about a 2WD pickup. As far as I know, 2WD pickups through at least 2nd gen Tacomas have a 5 lug pattern, meaning no stock 4x4 wheel from any year will fit.

gotta love it when people (not you moto809) play thread archeologist and run with it not realizing they weren't posting about the right stuff
