Which tires for 4.10 gear ratio?
 

So, i finally made it to the big league... I bought an 85 toyota pickup sr5 4x4 w/ 2ng GEN 22r. Im curious, I have BFG MUD 34's on there now and havent had too much of a problem... Although I suspect there is a better tier for pavment. I use this truck as a daily driver as well as my "adventure rig". My question is: what are some opinions on what size and type tire should I get for a 4.10 ratio if I want sweet gas milage in town/freeway but also not lose too much performance on forest service roads? You have 4.10, a carburetted 22r, and which transmission?

Iirc the 4.83 puts your speedo back to accurate on 33". Which puts your power band back where Toyota designed it.

4.53 will put you in the middle of what you have and the design.

Sounds like you'd be happiest with LT 31x10.5 all terrains, load range C. Whatever brand you go for, you'll get a smoother ride on pavement. Lighter tires make for better fuel economy, too. The 31's on stock 4.10 axles are still a little undergeared but closer to stock than your current tires for faster acceleration and easier to drive up hills. Load range C is more durable than a standard load tire, but not super-stiff like load range D or E.

I should also add that i have a 4in. Lift and im pretty sure the tranny is stock/rebuilt

Is that 4" all from a suspension lift? Or do you have blocks and cranked torsion bars?

If it's lifted suspension, it might look kinda funny with anything smaller than 33's, check out pics on Google images to see what I mean. 33x10.5 all-terrain tires would still be an improvement over 34" mud tires...unless you're driving through mud ;-)

You might want to look into a set of gears if you want to keep the 4" lift and big tires. 4.10 gears just don't work well for that purpose.

Its is all suspension lift :/ that what i was thinking... I want 31's but it will look like crap :( 33's it is! Thanks for the info... Bigger gears are down the road...
