Spare Rotation to half life tread wear set

I placed the no tread wear spare on the passenger side rear wheel on my 2008 4runner. The other 3 tires are at about half life of wear on the tread. The Tire service guy said this could over heat the transmission in 4WD operation due to the slight different tire diameter. All tires are the same mfg series and tread desigh. The other 3 have about 20K wear and the spare has never been used. Is this really a transmission hazard?

Thanks,

Stinson

Technically they are a different diameter so yes there is some validity to the statement.

I'd think not.

First off unless you have a welded rear or a full time locker the slight difference isn't even going to be noticed.

Secondly the transmission, if it over heated at all due to the slightly larger tire on the rear would probably over heat regardless of whether you had it in 4wd or not. Engaging the front axle isn't going to make the tranny go "Oh! There's a newer tire in the rear! I'd better get heated over that injustice!".

You'll be fine. I can't count the number of folks back in high school and college, and some of the guys I work with, who will buy one new tire when the have a blow out on older ones instead of replacing all four. Yes the majority of them were cars although now that I'm in construction almost everything is 4x4. The one new tire isn't going to screw things up.

I've got property next to Wabbits if you want a larger lot. *laugh* :con:
