SFA tire clearance
is there no thread about this started already? or can i just not find it?
i want to run a set of 38x11x15 boggers. all i do is play in the mud a little bit and ride up and down the road. i know, i know, thats a sin. but i love my old truck and i have learned that playin is breakin, and until i can afford to fix the breaks i prally wont play much. rock climbin isnt my thing, mostly because i live in an area that doesnt do that much, anyway. how much lift will my truck need to turn em, safely, no fender trimming or bumper removin or anything like that, wont be too much longer i'll be startin on a full restore. |
Your going to need a lot of lift to clear 38`s, i have an 86 4Runner with 37x12.50-15 tires and my lift is 16'' over the stock height of a truck/4Runner for clearance and tire travel. 82 trucks have smaller wheel wells than my 4Runner, so unless you plan on doing a lot of fender trimming i don`t shttp://http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...cture005-2.jpgee the larger tires fitting to well.

Yeah, if you dont trim the fenders and just lift it then you will end up with one of those homo show trucks.

So I take it along with you spring budget you are including $$ for gears and Longfield axles up front and some chromoly for the rear?
And yes, this has been covered before. |
4" of lift and firewall tubbing.
:guitar: |
yes ive accounted gears and axles. and you can call it what you want to. i dont give a damn. i know i will do a complete restore and dont plan on choppin up my fenders. like i also said, when i can pay, i will play. until then my ass is broke and dont plan on breakin stuff
|

:guitar: You can run them with no lift if you trim the CRAP out of the fenders but I wouldn't recommend it - you'll still rub on the firewall. Fink:devil: |

Not going to tell you what you should spend you money on and what not, but it seems to me that if "your ass is broke" that you should be spending your money on more important things. :D |
you dont have to tubb if you move the front end forward, go that route and you also gain approach angle.
|
I dont think he cares much about approach angle, he just wants the tires:P
|
he also said he didn't want to trim.. so by moving the front end forward he would be able to run bigger tires with less lift/trimming. :)
|
Good point.
But ya know, if he lifts it high enough, he wont need to trim at all:lof: http://a.imageshack.us/img444/7279/sema057mediumbo2.jpg |
:lol::lol:
|
what a waste of a nice 4runner. I would like to see the "flex" on that.lol
|
yea that looks gay. and no. i will build my truck how i want it. do i want the big tires? yes i do. will i do it without choppin stuff up, yes i will. will i break stuff playin? eventually. but not now
|
on my 81 i fit 35's with no lift, stock steering and no trimming. they rubbed on uptravel but not if you're just going straight. i have about 3.5 in of lift now and i don't rub at all once again without trimming the fenders, only the front trim piece that doesn't belong anyways, helps with the wider axles though
