nitto terragrappler problems?

Has anyone experiences cracking in between thier tread blocks? I have a huuge crack/slice in between the tread blocks. I inspected the other tires and they have minor cracking. Anyone else have this? Anyways to remedy it?

subscribing because i just bought a set

How many miles do you have on them? I have over 12k on mine and they look fine.

Localmotion 10-16-2006 10:09 AM

I have about that.

I cant tell whether or not I did it from wheeling or what. But there seems to be one prominant crack and the rest have small cracks. Ill snap some pics.

I had a brand new set of bfg mud terrains that did that -- i would take them back! It looked like really bad dry rot cracks???

Localmotion 10-16-2006 10:24 AM

here is a pic of the main crack. Sorry for the liquid, i wanted to see if it was leaking air. The other tires have small cracks....nothing to worry about compared to this one. I can see the polyester ply through the crack.

A defect such as that should be warrantied by the manufacturer.

that's a safety hazard. w/ only 12k, it's reasonable to assume that they shouldn't be doing that. you should take it up w/ DTD first, then to nitto, then to the NTSB if you have to.

yea, I'm pretty bummed about it. I'm waiting on DTD to get back to me. Hopefully they will be able to fix my problems.

Nitto tire company really sucks at customer serivce...they only have 1 guy in the adjustments department. Ill post more about this later...i need a drink.

Localmotion 10-20-2006 05:21 PM

ok heres the low down...

I wen to DTD to get my tires looked at. They said they had some premature dry rotting, but nothing too bad. So the guy went to call Nitto, but its 10 AM EST and Nitto is out on the left coast, so we wait. I wait till around 12 EST and call back. The guy said the guy who handles adjustments wasnt in yet, but he left a message. I call back 3 hours later, same deal. I by 5pm EST, I go to DTD and see whats up. Charlie, the gentleman who was helping me was awesome. He tried his hardest to get in touch with the adjustments guy, but apparently, hes been in a meeting all day.

So the most DTD could give me on my tires was 62, which is unacceptable. This is all before they could call Nitto. well there is only 1 guy in the adjustments department and they close at 5....5 is when the guy gets out of the meeting...how convienent. DTD closes at 6, so this is really starting to make me angry.

Well after talking with Charlie, he told me there was a spare 305 goodyear foterea I could have for free so that I could make it up back to Richmond. just to recap, i have a slice in my right rear tire. So im pretty happy with the way DTD handle it. Just perterbed that Nitto only has 1 tire adjustments guy, who seems as if he doesnt do any work.

I hope i will be able to get more than 62 back on my nittos that dont have that much mileage on them.

BTW: Discount tire direct and Discount tire comapny are seperate entities, but are under the same roof. I'll keep you guys updated.

sorry for the long post/rant.

Matt, sorry for your troubles. Glad I got the certificates now.

I checked mine, no cracks with ~3K on them. I've wheeled several times aired down to 15 over sharp rocks with no problems. I'm doing another run this weekend over rocks, mud and streams. I'll keep an eye on them, but so far so good.

Localmotion 11-12-2006 09:41 AM

yea, if you have certs, you are ok.

Nitto's customer service really sucks. I have left numerous messages and still nobody got back to me. I am giving up, its not worth my stress. :horse:
