My new tires (Wrangler Duratrac)
#21
Thanks a lot, Rokblok. Yes, I'm thinking same way. That's why I'm more interested in the Duratrac's than the BFG A/T's. DT's somewhat fall in between AT and MT. Kind of a hybrid - MT on shoulder, AT in middle.

In regards to how long a DT will last - I have 285/16 E-rated on my Land Cruiser and they have over 40k and are approximately 2/5 worn down. GY rep said I should expect around 80k from them, possibly more if I treat them well. Keep in mind that a 100-series Cruiser is shy of 3 tons, which is considerably heavier than a pickup or 4runner. I can't comment on how the wear will compare to a BFG, but I do know that BFG ATs are known for high mileage - like 100k from a set. Aside from this, I would personally say the DTs are a better tire because they're more friendly in rain and ice and sloppy terrain with the tread pattern they sport - and they will do better in muddy conditions. Where the BFG might beat the tire is longevity, sidewall strength, and maybe sand terrain - but everybody and their brother runs them on their rig
