LT vs P rated tires??
Looking for new tires to compliment the new OME lift. Probably either BFG AT's (if I can find a good deal on them) or Nitto TG's. Both come in either LT or P ratings. I know the ratings refer to number of ply's, just not sure which is better?

LT tires would be the best:

I once ran a set of P metric tires on my old FJ55 Landcruiser and the sidewalls were shot in a year or two. Replaced those with some LT tires and it was so much more stable in the corners. With the P tires, it felt like it was wallowing in the turns, very mushy and slugging cornering response. |
P actually stands for 'pmetric' and LT is, obviously, light truck. to me, the only vehicles that should run P rated tires are cars. SUVs and trucks, IMO, are too heavy for Pmetric tires.

There are 3 different types of LT, usually C, D, E ratings. Usually a 2 ply difference between P and LT C rating tires. The tread will be slightly deeper on LT. At least this is the case with Bridgestones.

When choosing what ply to run you have to make sure that tire will hold the weight of the car/truck. in a diesel case i would try to run an D or E ply rated tire. but someone with a ford ranger heck ya all day but rated 4 ply tire. you also have to consider what you will want to do with the tire"off-road, highway? rating ply's B-4, C-6, D-8, E-10 and it goes up like F-12. and bfg A/T's rock chip like a fool it would be a great tire if it wasnt for that!
