i just bought 12 year old tires, and im vorried

i didn't relieze they were 12 years old when i bought them, but im scarred to run them, because i have heard horror stories on how dangerous it is to have old tires...
what do you guys think should i run them??

scuba 01-23-2009 01:31 PM

Where did you buy them from..? :dj:

bigt 01-23-2009 01:32 PM

if you got them at a store its illegal for them to sell them..take them back!

Corey 01-23-2009 01:57 PM

Yes, there is a thread somewhere here about how to decode the date on the side of the tires.

Illegal for them to sell they are if you bought them from a tire store.

gilby4runner 01-23-2009 02:00 PM

what shape are they in? Dry Rot? Pics?

TFJ-4runner 01-23-2009 02:02 PM

Like bigt said if you got them from a store take them back its illegal for them to sell you those.

SR5 01-23-2009 03:54 PM

SR5 01-23-2009 03:56 PM

didnt pay much for those did you????

shancerlelby 01-23-2009 08:06 PM

looks about the same as my trail tires. maybe keep em away from doing highway speeds. my bfg mt's are just about 10 years old now i figure. i'll get someone to pm you if i die while driving on them tho. :)

Hayes 01-23-2009 09:01 PM

I wouldn't run them. The potential for a blowout is far greater with a tire of that age.

ozziesironmanoffroad 01-23-2009 09:10 PM

dont run em...

85excab 01-23-2009 09:20 PM

i ran a set of 11 yr old 35 bfg muds and never had a problem, now they are on a buddys 90 toy and he hasnt had a problem yet, i used to drive down the interstate at 80mph 5 days a week 15 miles each way for 2 yrs on them. those bfg's last a long time.

while you were at Schwab's you should have asked them. If they are too oldd they won't mount them.

justcuz 01-24-2009 03:06 AM

ask the experts

not true... if a tire place is bored enough, (or hurting enough) they'll mount anything. ive even been asked to patch sidewall punctures (which is illegal). so yeah... they'll mount em with a 'no warranty on anything, totally off the record' thing.

waskillywabbit 01-24-2009 05:55 AM

1. How much did you pay for the tires?

2. How much is your life worth?

If 2 > 1 then I guess you have your answer.

Lesson learned. Look at used items closely BEFORE you purchase them cause once you buy them they are yours.

I wouldn't run them...but then again I would have never bought them except maybe for some rollies.

well the guy wont pic up his phone so i guess i got no choice but to run them:bang::bang:
i paid 400, and im not throwing that money away.
i got a question thought, will they fit my stock rims, or do i need to buy new rims?
