Cooper tire Discoverer STT?
anybody have any experience with this tire?
it looks nice.. I saw it in one of the 4wd mags 2005 buying guide.. http://www.coopertire.com/us/en/imag...overerSTT2.jpg any comments? |
I bought 4 Cooper's for my Runner over 2½ years ago, although not STT. Cooper makes a great tire. I liked Cooper's enough to buy a set of four for my wifes ride too...

There's a bunch of tire reviews on my website... some guy reviewed the STTs there. Gave them good grades, but didn't comment on them beyond the ratings.

I run Cooper S/T's on my Tacoma. Love 'em. I didn't get the STT's because I really didn't want a full mud tire, but I have to say that their new STT design is one of the best looking mud tires on the market IMO. I am almost interested in them, but they don't have all of their sizes out yet and they are built really heavy. Much more than I need really. I have to say though that you won't go wrong with any Cooper tires. They are extremely good tires and the prices can't be beat.
If you need a great in between tire, go with the S/T's. They are much more aggressive than the A/T's, but a bit less so than the STT. My avatar pic shows the tread. They are extremely popular over in Australlia. Just thought I would throw that in. |
i ran a set of their old m/t's in a 33x12.5x15 (8 years ago) i got 50k out of them before i sold the truck. rode great, little noise and awsome traction. I think i'll be checking out the stt's as soon as they get more sizes out!

I bringing this topic back up to see if anyone has used these tires since the inital thread was posted. These tires are $40 cheaper per tire than MTR's. Since the Toyo (see my other thread) arn't due to be released for a few months I'm looking at other options.

Just to update, either fourwheeler mag or peterson's 4 wheel drive magazine (I can't remember exactly which since I get both) reviewed the STT's in this month's issue. They really liked them from what they said and also that they acted just like an all terrain on the street.

I ran 31 S/T's for about a year before switching to 33 MTR's |
I want some, but I want them in a 33x10.50 or 32x11.50, maybe they will make more sizes soon.

The only thing I can't tell is if the shoulder is just a pattern, or of the lugs go over the side of the tire like the MTRs

Here are some pics from SEMA of them. The shots came from www.rockcrawler.com.

As you can see, the tread goes over the sides quite a bit.

Hmmm. |
Anyone got pricing on these yet? I can't really find anyone online that is selling them.

Hmm - the only reason I brought this thread back up was the guy at Big O offered these STT as an option over the Toyo MT's and he said they were about $140 per tire. Unless I misheard him. Guess I'll have to call him back.

I must ask this:
Cooper Discoverer S/T's OR BFG A/T's I need a good tire with good wear that'll handle mostly road driving, snowy winters, and good off road. I've ridden on BFG's my whole life and can't complain... however, at the S/T's just as good or better? |
