I found an ICECREAM in a bag recipe in a RV catalog
Fill the large bag half full of ice and add the rock salt, seal the bag. Put milk, vanilla, and sugar into the small bag and seal it. Place the small bag inside of the large one and reseal. Shake until mixture is ice cream, they suggest about 5 minutes I may have to try this when I get out camping again |
That shake and freeze ice cream one sounds pretty cool.
|
Why wait til you go camping? test and perfect the method/flavour now...

Ooh-oh ouch quit twisting my arm. will do some "testing" soon, I don't feel like running to the store today to pick up the stuff. Besides around here rock salt is still out of stock everywhere I look.
And I don't have any rugrats I can bribe with a prize to shake the bag for 5 minutes |

Yeah the neighbors would love it if I filled theme up with sugar, got theme all wound up, and sent theme home!

I learned a new one a couple of weekends ago.
Snakes on a stick You will need At least 1 can of ready to bake crescent roll's, ie Pillsbury A squeezable bottle of your favorite jam A bit of either melted butter and a basting brush, or a bottle of something like "I Can't Believe Its Not Butter" spray Stick needs to be about the diameter of your thumb, and long enough to hold over fire with only a risk of singing the hair on your knuckles Prepare the fire as if you were going to make Smores. Clean the end of your chosen stick of bark and loose derbies, a point is not required. Open the can of Crescent rolls and separate theme. Brush the butter on or spray the cooking end of the stick Take 1 of the rolls and wrap around the stick, and make sure to include the end and pinch it shut over the end of the stick. Brush or spray the outside of the crescent roll with the butter Place over the fire and watch it closely to prevent burning, rotating to bake all around. Remove Crescent roll from stick with paper towel. Squeeze your jam in the resulting hole and enjoy. |
Sounds good maniac... for a savory variation you could stuff the roll with pieces of fire roasted red pepper and squeezy cheese...
or you could make up a batch of ground meat with taco spices (old el paso/mexicasa taco kit type stuff) toss in a little diced tomato mix it with some sour cream and shredded cheddar and let it cool a little bit. Put the mixture in to a ziploc bag seal it and cut open one corner and pipe the mixture into the rolls. Nice tasty trail snacks For a gourmet take on your original idea put a little marscapone cheese in a bowl and add several spoons of your fav. jam mix them together well and spoon it into a ziploc bag seal it and cut off a tip and pipe the mixture into the rolls. Melt some semi-sweet (dark) chocolate in a double boiler and dip the open end of the roll in the chocolate. dust the outside with a little powdered sugar when on the plate and serve. |
Dang my camping weight keeps getting heavier, too many recipies, not enough camp time.
Thanks for those other suggestions, my mind was stuck in dessert mode... ...AGAIN |
I was thinking if you wanted to make these at home you could use some empty metal cigar tubes to form the rolls... just make sure to remove the cedar liner [if any] and wash them well first. the bare metal kind would probably be safer then the painted ones.
|
Their is a thought, especially since there is basically no fires allowed in the camping areas, because it has been unusually hot and dry in Western Washington this Summer
|
If you're going that way all you'd need to carry in the truck is a cheap toaster oven... you'd be able to do at least 3 at a time with a small one.

didn't know YT had food on the site! I put one big can of peaches and white cake mix in my dutch oven, sprinkle cinnamon over the top--45min later cake! top with your fav ice cream.

Sounds good but the best amd clasic desert for camping are the smores but use foil and a gill rack to put over the fire and after roasting the marshmellow and puting it on the chocolate and gram cracker put them on the grill with the foil and heat on the chocolate side for 3-5 mins flip and heat another 3-5 mins to melt chocolate and have it mix with the melted marshmellow
