PowerFlare for the backcountry

Or for at home for an emergency, or while out camping. This thing is pretty cool. Different LED patterns, colors, and an SOS. http://www.powerflare.com/ I think this would make a nice addition to the emergency kit(s) that I already carry full time. |
Going to call this place tomorrow and place an order after I find which model would be best.
I will put up a review on it later with pics/video. PS, the FAQ page is here. http://www.powerflare.com/help/index.html If you want the rechargeable ones, they are expensive. You have to buy a six pack of them, and the charger/case is about the size of a laptop. http://pfdistributioncenter.com/inde...PROD&ProdID=57 http://pfdistributioncenter.com/Prod...R-R-Y%202X.gif Looks like I will order the red/amber combo that uses a replaceable lithium CR123 battery for $50. http://pfdistributioncenter.com/inde...PROD&ProdID=63 http://pfdistributioncenter.com/Prod...-RA-O%202X.gif |
Wow, these things look bright.
|
Yes they are.
I would really like to have the rechargeable type, but I have no need for six of them. Oh well, I will have to price the CR-123 batteries and keep some spares in the rig. I have flares right now in my cargobox that I had when I had the 4Runner. In fact I think the flares are from when I had my 90 Xtracab, well before the creation of YotaTech. Probably bought them in the early 90s. I think these are a lot better alternative. |
we get those cr-123 batterys in at work for some led light things we sell.. the come with backs of 4 batterys... might have a few spare packs if they are alot of money to buy let me know!
|
Check those flares Corey they may be out of date if they're that old...
I was going to say I was concerned about their ability to stand up to being run over by some idiot but having watched the videos they seem to be able to take it. A very interesting product... def. going to add to my list of goodies to get... maybe you could talk to them about a group buy thing either a disc. or as a fundraiser for Mary... maybe if she'd had one or two in her ride that twit would not have rear-ended her... |
Thanks bigt.
Paul, I will have to find out how you dispose of old flares. I do not think they can do a fund raiser, but I will ask about a group buy. I see on their website they have an area to input a promo code. I will be ordering one tomorrow when they get back to work, so I will find out more. But for $50 I feel it is well worth it. And yes, they are heavy duty. |
my hilux came with a factory road flare!!
one of the cooler options! |

Nice find Corey.
I sent the link to my Airsoft team. We play at night and use glow sticks to mark the boundaries. The glow sticks don't last too long. Watching the video i also learned something. I have been dropping old flares into mole holes to try and smoke them out. I didn't realize that they were toxic to the water. You just made my lawn a greener place :banger: |
He he, just do not label me a tree huggin' greenie :D
As soon as this episode of Stargate Atlantis is over, I will call them to see if I can order one. |
Just talked to the owner, I ordered two.
If you order two, you get free: One bag that will hold four of these, and batteries (see below). Two extra batteries Two carabineers The units themselves come with one CR-123 battery already. Mine ship on Monday, will try to get info up next week on how they look. I went with the red/amber LED combo, and one yellow shell, the other one olive drab. This deal too is by calling in, not by ordering over the website. |
They arrived today, very cool.
I shot a video of them on my PC desk, but I want to add to the video with them outside in the dark. I will try to get the video up by Friday night. |

You just made my lawn a greener place :banger: You have a natural, randomly placed "tangle foot" to hamper would be intruders and a built in play area for the kids [either yours or the neighbour's/family], just give them a large soft mallet and you've got "Whack a Mole"... Plus the moles will keep your slugs in check... |
Video and review is up in the Product review section.

Great review Corey... I'm impressed how well they seem to work... I'd be interested to see just how long the batt. lasts in real world usage and how bright they are as the batt. power fades. Great mini movie too...
|
Thanks Paul.
I have a sheet that shows how long the battery should last in each mode. I will try and scan it this weekend and update the other thread with it. Looks like we will be getting one free at work too. I gave the info to my boss and he took it to his boss. We will get them as a safety recognition award for our crew. |
Congratulations...
I need to order me a pair of them and take them to the safety types here... does that tech sheet have info on ambient temp./usage/life as well? |
Here is the tech sheet Paul, just scanned it a bit ago.
