GMC 5.3v8 - GMC tranny - GMC tranfer case -> 95 toy pickup
I'm considering an engine swap.
I have a 1995 toy pickup (NOT Tacoma) EXT cab that came with 22re 5spd.
It's a bone stock DLX
can I use the complete 2001 GMC Sierra Z71 Extended Cab drivetrain? I have the entire donor vehicle so I can use its wiring and all sensors.
I understand I can source a different oil pan to gain clearance over the IFS.
It is drivers side drop so the transfer case may be ok. comments?
This is my daily driver so downtime will be an issue.
any obvious roadblocks I'm missing?

youll need a body lift and more than likely a small suspension lift for clearence issues but other than that if you have an entire donor truck you should be set

Bottom feeder is right, you will need a body lift and a suspension lift. I know on my 94 I had to have atleast a 2 inch body and a 3 inch lift to fit my 350. I had about 2 inches of room when all said and done. Now they do offer different clearance oil pans which might save you a lot of headache and money. Also my vehicle took a few weeks with me consistently working on it to get it running again. Its not a fast process by any means. Good luck!!!

Typically people do a body lift for clearance especially since the distributor is in the rear of the engine, he probably wont have to worry about it with a 5.3 since it has a distributorless system, the intake is pretty high on the pickup engines but he could swap to an LS1 intake with a lower profile. The motor mounts will have to be fabbed as I remember there is no 5.3 motor mounts for this swap available

Just like James Wood said, the body lift helps with clearance with the distributor from the firewall and intake/carburetor clearance from the hood. I know with my setup I barely had room between the hood and the carburetor as well as the distributor. Rock Junky post some pics of your setup, I definitely want to see how you did your swap!!

Also Joust, your swap will be more complicated so it will take time. I would suggest making sure you had another vehicle to drive.
My other question is, is the transfer case thats coming out of the GMC the electric or still the manuel engage setup?
