Here's the wireing code on my truck that works perfect.

Mercedes glow plug controler;

Blk w/red -- switched power

Brown -- ground

blue w/ white -- indacator light

purple -- safety switch. (Not needed)


Toyota alt plug;

Red -- switched power

small white -- switched power

big white -- glow plug controller main power

i used the same switched hot wire for the shut off siolnoid as the glow plug controller. i used the adla siolnoid off of my 82 300sd for the shut off.


If anyone has any questions for me let me know mine is running and driving now. there is probably some info i forgot to put in this thread.

The only problem i have is my tie rod is hitting my td swaps oil pan from lock to lock, and hit bad enuf twords lock both ways that it moves the engine. NOT AT ALL HAPPY WITH HIS WORK. the only thing that i can say that was honesty good out of his kit was the ps pump bracket. the rest is kinda hoky with a lack of craftsmenship.

Tranny started to growl yesterday, it never did b4 the swap. After all of the other oversights tdswaps has made on the rest of the kit. I'm leaning twords his bellhousing adaptor being the cause!! Looks like I'm gonna have to shell out more $$ and buy a good adaptor, FROM SOMEONE ELSE!!

Is it possible that your tranny was just near the end of its life? A couple other folks here have had their tranny bite it after the OM617 upgrade (and they made their own adapters).

I got the r151 there pretty solid. if its the input bearing going out. its his adaptor. the bolts had to b forced to go in. but ill c how it devlops and go from there.

Got hooked up on my exhust $200 all the way back. thx Robert at classic muffler in camas. these guys r grate. also a big thx to the Watts, Purcell, and Taylor family's. without them it would of been way harder. last but not least thx to all of u who did this swap and posted ur experience's. its a good swap with alot of potential, if u chose good vendors .

Looks like I'm gonna b in the market for another om617 soon. she's smoking like Tommy chong. hasn't lost any power, just eating oil. Must of broke a ring on the cly ridge when i hit the governor on a hill climb. think I'm gonna pull the head on the next engine to see if i gotta knock the ridge off so this doesn't happen again. i think ill spend some more money this time and get a lower mile engine. a rebuilt long block costs about $7400, and a rebuilt short block is $4500. From metric moters. thay seem to b the only game in town. i could probably do a rebuild myself for $2500 or less.

If anyone has any lines on a good om617a or another rebuilder i would love to know.

Did you use the toyota temp sensor? I couldnt get it to fit on the mercedes.

No i didn't use the stock sender. i got a universal temp gauge,and put it in an A pillar. 3 gauge pod. i used the. inner most sender port on the engine.

I'm using the stock toyota sensor from my '93 with an adapter if I remember correctly. I'm also using an aftermarket sensor for an additional gauge, there are two tapped holes in the MB water neck.
My notes say something about a 1/4"npt to 12mm face seal adapter. Most gauge manufactures offer an adapter pack that often contains this adapter.

Brian at tdswaps said the toyota sending unit sensor will fit. The sensor wont even fit into the hole much less screw into it.

He's a waste of time. Read powerstroke joes, or pyrojoes thread u will get a lot more useful info then u will ever get from tdswaps.

Good job on ur swap!! Glad to hear it runs and drives. Sucks u have to rebuild it. But at least u know its good for a long time to come. I'm guessing ur experience with tdswaps was not good I tried to contact him about a kit but he never responded. Did the mounts work well? Thanks for a good write up.

Thay bolted in but i had to feness and pry to make it go in. After it was bolted in i realise that the engine. sat crooked not a whole lot but enough to make my tdswaps oil pan hit my ifs tierod hit on one side, enough to limit my steering b4 hitting the stops. NFG!!! if i was to do another om617 swap i would either make mounting brackets for the stock Mercedes motor mounts, or investing in a set of transfer punches an make my own, Similar to powerstroke joe did. hope this helps u out

My engine spun a rod bearing and started knocking this last weekend. bought my doner car this week a 85 300sd. this one is looking much better then the last one hardly any blow by and excellent oil pressure. hope this one lasts. should have it in soon.

haven't even started yet. had to get shop space at my buddys ready. Along with work and family just haven't found the time yet. Going to shoot for having it done before Christmas. I'm Supposed to take it up to ephrada around the 20th, That should be enough incentive for me to get her done.

So far I have a 94 4Runner and 83 SD donor car. OM617 Adapter to 700r4 trans, 700r4 to Dana 300 adapter. Dana 300 has a LoMax 4:1 kit in it. Engine, trans and transfer case removed from the 4Runner. That is as far as I have gotten. Work has consumed my time lately.

I just completed my om617 swap a couple of weeks ago and am loving it so far.

I programmed out and milled an adapter plate and flywheeler adapter at work for my pickup and everything has gone together very well.

I have a few buddies wanting kits and a couple other people so I will end up doing a short run of them and selling them to whoever is interested. After talking with my boss about costs it looks like a small run will put them at $450 for a kit, which includes the adapter plate, flywheel adapter, and redrilling the flywheel to accept the mercedes crank.

If you have the ability, consider offering more items. Take a look at the items offered by a unnamed vendor who has a lot of people upset with his inability to deliver and lack of communication. To be successful with this venture, offer quality parts and deliver when you say you will at a competitive price.
