3FE swap in place of a 22re
I have a 95 truck with a 22RE that is sick. I'm kinda sick of its performance and thinking of a swap. A locak guy has a 3FE 4.0L diesel out of a landcruiser. How hard is it to mate this engine to the manual W56 in my truck? is it possible?
and if so, how does the gearing work? I mean a Diesel revs lower than the gas engine so how do diesel swappers deal with that issue for cruising on the highway? if this is not a good fit, I can also source a VW 1.9. or if all else fails an old 3.4L 5vz. |
3fe is a 4.0L GAS engine. Not many diesel cruisers in the N/A market.
Look into a 3rz-fe swap from a '95.5-'04 Tacoma, '96-'00 4Runner or '94-'98 2wd T100s. |
The Mercedes om617 has a 5,200 rpm redline and has no problems with the stock Toyota gearing. I wouldn't use a vw engine unless it was a grocery fetter, just to light duty for heavy use.
