I have a vacuum delete for ALH available too, for anyone that might have some clearance issues back there. It came about for ALH diesel drag cars for racers that wanted to ditch the gerotor style pump off the cam to eliminate that wee-bit of drag on the engine. But it would work for anyone that's clearance challenged too. It's a direct replacement for the OEM Tdi vac pump and uses the OEM o-ring from VW. The white one is just the 3D printed test version.

And the crossmember. This thing definitely cleared up the space issue with the t-case oil drain and getting to the driveshaft flange fasteners. I have a third truck underway that has dual cases, so I'll have a replacement crossmember available for that too.

And I set an ALH into a 98 Tacoma that's in here too, just to kinda of get an idea about fitment, and man there is all kinds of room in these things. I'd probably use like later 04-06 engine with more power, but it seems like it might be a pretty decent package. This truck had a 3.4/5 speed.
I have a third truck as a build on Youtube, but I wasn't sure if the forum rules allowed posting links to that. It's an 85 W56E to 03 ALH. Truck is bone stock. For now.

Very excited to hear that you are looking at the 1st gen Tacoma for the TDI swap. An early double-cab Tacoma or 3rd gen 4runner would be awesome candidates for a TDI swap.

Yeah, they actually appear to be the more conversion-friendly platform--lots of room under there. I'm pretty sure this one is destined for a 2.0 tdi with some tuning.

Hi.

So any title or poster hints? Your username here? Be fun to watch.
Awesome projects. Gas won't be cheap forever.

The 85 Toy ALH build videos are here. There's only 3 so far, it's more experimenting with some existing parts. If it all works, i'll post that one here too.

Found myself a donor car today. It's a 2002 Jetta with an ALH engine and automatic trans. I have been chasing various leads and getting beaten out on the ones with attractive prices and balking at the ones that seemed too pricy. $400 for this one!

I can't count how many tdi's i've missed--and I generally find them the day they hit Craigslist. I'm 3D printing a slightly different version of the crank adapter for the 3.0.
I bought a truck--so now I'm committed too!!

I am in southeastern Wisconsin. I am so close to Chicago that it almost seems like I am living in the suburbs. Milwaukee is also nearby. That means I am living on the edge of a metroplex with a population of at least 10 million people. It means that I can find just about anything I can imagine on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, or eBay within a reasonable driving distance. I have to imagine that Kalispel is different. Do you look to Spokane/Coeur d'Alene for craigslist?

Almost done with frame work on my AHU swapped 85. Using parts from DCS kit.
Pass side mount using vw mount and 22re isolator
Drivers side mount using original vw mount and 22re engine isolator
Little reinforcements

Nice work! I love to see these old trucks getting this kind of treatment. I kept my 84 alive for many years beyond its expected lifespan by doing similar frame work.

Thank you frame looked solid with just visually inspecting it. Decided to open it up to spray rust converter in rails and glad I did if you ever wondered why they rot right here it’s because they put this stupid reinforcement plate inside the rails that is wet from the first day it’s off the line I cut mine out and redid everything also had big mice nest in both side of rails

The engine is out of the Toyota. I have a 2002 Jetta donor vehicle. All I need now, is a good adapter.
My truck. Soon to be powered by a Volkswagen turbo-diesel.
Engine, transmission, and transfer case out without a scratch on the vehicle.
The 3VZE engine having served a long and useful life is retired. If you look closely, on the side of the block, you can see a hole where a connecting rod exited. I paid $1000 for this rig with a bad engine. When I complete the TDI swap, it will be the first time I have ever driven it.
