1JZ GTE VVT-i into 22R 84 Runner

So ive been working on my runner for the past week and figured i should probly starting posting stuff before it gets to far behind me......Pulled the 22r out still mounted to the trany. Dropped the gas tank along with most the electrical and the vacum that the build would not need from the old motor.

I'll be using a R154 bellhousing mated to a R150F out of a 3.4 runner. Using an adapter from Trail Gear ill bolt my stock transfer case to it so my front axle can stay put. Also i will be using a rear sump on this 1jz so it clears my steeiring stabilizer up front

Size: 78.0 KB you can see the input shaft out of the 3.4's is just the right length with the R154 Bellhousing

I paid $1,650 for the 1J shipped. The miles i do not know. But not many,The harness, block, pulleys, everything is completly clean no dirt grime or oil anywhere. With no evidence of being pressure washed so she should def do some good when it's said and done. I have been talking to Driftmotion.com on getting everything i need. They said the 1jz vvti's bone stock on dyno put out 280-310HP all day no prob.

I would REALLY like to see a bone stock 1jz vvti or not, pull 280 on an accurate dyno.

Every one I've ran (I'm pretty big into the import tuning crowd, and dyno'd quite a few supra's myself) has pulled in 250/250 hp/tq Range.

Still no slouch by any means, and they have a phenominal torque curve, but STOCK you're not hitting 300. That's above what they put out at the flywheel.

Some basic stuff, little bit extra fuel, and crank up the boost a bit, and you'll be creeping closer to that.

I'm not sure how driftmotion is saying those numbers, search supra and lexus forums.

Still an awesome build!

haha well as with any project hey never go as you plan whenyou first start them. What was suppose t be a motor swap has now turne into a boy off fram resto while im at it. Everything was already gutted including the fuel tank. The only thing holding the body and frame together was 8 bolts. So 2hrs after the thought this is what i had.

Size: 176.2 KB on each inside rail where the new hangers are welded i did a 2x1/8 inch plate to help reinforce a little bit. The frame is curved inward right at the bend. So i tacked the plate on heated it up and then formed to the frame with c-clamps while it was glowing and then featherd in

Size: 139.8 KB I also had to cut my shock hoops and bring them in about 5degrees. Tires at full flex before would rub on them just a little bit. Other then that frame is just about done and ready for paint!

Almost forgot. This is the fuel cell, pum, filter, lines and fitting i orderd from summit. The fuel cell i was gonna build a rack for where the spar tired holder use to be. Problem i didnt like thoe is once the first 90 for the supply is added to the top of the tank it puts it at a total Heigth of 10inches. The tank itself is 7. 30x17x7 just so yall know. Which is way to far for me,the whole point is i dont want it to be to visible below the frame. So i have an idea in my head that im pretty sure i can make look extremly good when said and done. With cutting a whole in the back of the body and then building its own compartment throught the body down into the frame a little bit.

The pickup motor mounts welded to the frame aren't that heavy duty, it would probably be best to build your own anyway. That way you can also make them exactly the way you want them for the proper damping control AND you can reinforce the frame behind them. Down the road when you want to push the boost to some ridiculously high number, you won't have to worry about ripping motor mounts off the frame!

i def thought about doing that. But at the same time i have the thought of building motor and trans mounts that bolt to the stock ones. That i could reproduce and sell as a direct bolt in and hopefully get some of my money back out of the swap. If the stock ones handle the domestic V8 swaps and the 1UZ's i would think the stock frame mounts would hold up....But me being wrong is not a rare accurence either lol

Finally had the time to get my frame painted. Took about 7hours total to paint (not including prep). I used POR 15. I did two coats of reg semi gloss then a top coat of there Chassis satin Black. Total Cure time for the topcoats says 3-4 days. Right now im pretty happy with the overall finish. Curious to see how it looks once a get a couple thousand road miles on it.

Also quick word to the wise I thought of while overlooking my pics. If you ever decide to replace your rear frame cross member such as I did MAKE SURE YOU MEASURE IT BEFORE YOU CUT IT OUT!. I just happen to measure mine just as a precaution. Once I cut the cross member out the frame rails pulled in 5/8 of an inch.....Could of been a potentially big problem when the body goes on if the rear body mounts didn't line up.
