TG Motor Mount Opinions and Fitment Tips
 

UPDATE: THESE WERE A MAJOR PAIN... TO GET INSTALLED, AND I STILL NEEDED TO CUT MY HOOD lol

So I got my 3.4 motor in yesterday, and tranny bolted up just fine. The only problem I have are the TG motor mounts lining up. I went with these mounts because I read in this thread that the guy didn't need to do a body lift/hood scoop. So I bought em to see for myself.

After doing some reading on em, I'm not sure if I want to use them anymore. I know it said it would vibrate more then OEM mounts, but I don't know how much more. A lot of opinions on other forums, but not here. So I thought I'd ask.

My two questions are:

1. Anybody have any tips to get these lined up?

2. If you have/had them, was the vibration really that bad?

loosen up all your bolts, not including the block>mount. with enough slop you should be able to get all the bolts in, then snug everything down.

It will vibrate a lot. the 3.4 should be a purdy smooth running engine, not gonna knock your fillings out, but your going to feel the revving vibrations clearly. I am not a fan of the poly bushing style motor mount b/c they are rough. Tough as nails if your racing though. I like the middle of the road poly pad style mounts. LCE has a nice soft version that is much more durable and stiffer than OEM, but not as rough as the bushing style.

Looks good, get it mounted up and try them out. Maybe you'll love them.

Looks like they might be upside down? Most mounts will slide all the way down to the small bent over ears on the bottom of the frame mounts.


Poly mounts are durable as hell but I can't stand the vibration on a street driven vehicle. I've tried them and switched back.


There are mods you can do to beef up stock mounts and/or add a chain or cable to limit how far your engine can torque over under load. That's usually what tears up stock mounts.

aztoyman, you are awesome. After starin at your post for 5 min, I opened the hood, and yeah. They are backwards lol. Thank you.

Guess I'll give em a try and see how it is, since they are already in there. If anything, I can see if it's true that you don't need a bodylift/hood scoop with these mounts.

I got my 3.4 to fit without a hood scoop or body lift but, I made my own mounts to do it. Sits about 1 1/2" lower.


That's in my 88. I think your 90 has a little more wiggle room than mine so I hope it works out for you. Some guys had to cut out a hood brace and some guys fit as is. Not sure what's different.

I've got TG mounts and it was a PIA to line up too.....pretty sure they weren't on backwards. I daily my rig and I didn't notice a difference in vibration. Though that could have been because my OEM bushings were gone when I had the 3.slo in it so I didn't notice any difference.

They weren't backwards. I just ended up man handling them til I got the bolts in.

Hammering on them didn't do much. The way I did it was jacking up and down the tranny a little bit, getting a smaller screw driver with enough leverage to try to align the holes, and then hammering the top sides of the bolts in enough to get the nut on the bottom. I ended starting with the front bolts which allowed me to get the mount tightened halfway down so the other side can reach. And afterward, bolting them up evenly. It took like half the day, but it's doable. Just time consuming.

I've always only had one poly mount(drivers side) and one OEM mount. Works great.
