No E5 Plug
Hey yall I bought a harness for my swap froma 1998 4x4 Tacoma and bought a ECU for the same year and specs. But it seems that i dont have the E5 Plug on my harness. Is this usual? I checked the part number with Toyota and they said it was the correct year and all. But I am not sure what to do with the empty spot on the ECU. Do i leave it empty or?

On the 96/97 4Runner ECUs (I'm sure others are similar) there are 4 spots for connectors; 3 of them are attached to the Engine harness, the 4th is from the dash harness.
Chances are your E5 connector is the dash connectors; that provides all the signals the ECU needs from the vehicle (+12V, speed sensor, starter signal, 4x4 signal, etc) and the signals the vehicle needs from the ECU (tach, coolant temp, oil pressure, etc). |
So im not really sure i follow? My body harness is no where near the same year as the ecu so what is needed to get this final plug used?
|
Reason #156 why having a whole, donor is better. You're going to have to buy that plug and pins, or find a used one someone will cut off for you. Get enough wire o it to splice onto and you will match the functions to your existing body harness for gauges, 12v, tach, etc.
|
Where will my existing body harness be located? I know where the engine to body is but havent come across any of the strictly body harnesses yet. I didnt have the money to buy a wrecked car so i got everything (harness, engine and ecu) within the 1998 year.
|
I think i understand now, am i supposed to pinout the old body harness connectors wires to the 7-8 pins assigned to the E5 connector. and the rest of the exhisting pins to the IK2? seems like there will be many wires left over in this case. But if im reading the EWD right i dont believe 4x4 signal is on it, thats on E8, hopefully haha.

You need to buy the plug you need for your ECM Then re pin according to the pin outs on the ECM.
From having both EWD`s for the Engine and the vehicle it is going in Then this plugs in making it all nice and neat Someone should be able to tell you the part # |
If my 4x4 indicator is located on my E8 plug does that mean i need to splice that to where its connected to the ECU as well as my existing dash harness?
|
And im having trouble decifering what the BATT goes too. is that the Tach?

BATT is either switched power or constant power. I'm not sure I'll have to check tomorrow.
|
Also I was curious, if the starter relay on my 89 would be the clutch start switch? im trying to figure out which one that is but it doesnt seem to say clutch start switch.

It will be later today before I can give a good answer but 100% of your 3.4 swap wiring is in your passenger side kick panel.

The donor engine is a 4runner but the harness is a Taco
|
Ok, I believe the engines are the same. It's the differences in the harnesses.
|
Looking at my diagrams. BATT is ECM constant power. While B+ is switched power.
|
So then the B+ goes to the igniter and the BATT goes to?
